We did our family vacation this year for just $3,100. Admission costs were almost $2,000 of that cost. Much food was included in admissions. Hotels were done with points. Gas was done with all available discounts. The kids (22 and 24) joined us so four people, 8 nights, 9 days, 4 states, and a LOT of fun family time. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!

We did a fairly budget Disney vacation for my daughter's college graduation and her birthday last year. I rented a VRBO about 15 minutes from Disney. It had an in ground pool, 4 bedrooms, and 3 baths. It was myself, my daughter and her fiance, my son, and my mom. The house was 1300 for the week. We did all 4 Disney parks and I used my husband's discount he gets for working for the state of Kentucky. We did drive, it was around 14 hours away. All together it was about 4,000.00 and we did go to all 4 parks.

So, Christine, you are lucky to have 4 kids that easily go along with your family’s flow of things. But here’s a question perhaps for your podcast with Dave - what would you do if you had one kid who didn’t like hiking or mountain biking Iike the rest of you? I have a daughter and a son with wildly different interests. It became difficult to find overlap between the two. I remember when we were all going to a Giant’s game together when my daughter finally turned to us and said “how many times do I have to tell you people that I don’t like baseball?”. She was in 5th or 6th grade at the time.
@jodisadler9852 Жыл бұрын
This would be a great podcast topic....maybe after a poll on your social media's! Our kids were 10 yrs apart from 1st to 4th. 2 girls 2 boys. Lots of compromise on activities for sure!!!
@Sk8rToon Жыл бұрын
Ha! Reminds me of when I was a kid & would bring a notepad to doodle with to pass the time since the game was so boring!
@livinlavidatita Жыл бұрын
I’m not a parent, but speaking from the perspective of someone who grew up in a household where this sort of “compromise” had to happen often for the sake of “family time”, I’d say to go try doing new things until you find something everyone likes (even if that just ends up being a nice meal together every sunday). Don’t force her to go to a baseball game if she already said she doesn’t like it. If she hadn’t ever tried it, that’s one thing but forcing any of your children to repeatedly do something they already said they don’t like probably makes them feel like you’re not listening to them. The last thing you want is for your children to associate family time with such negative emotions, because that will likely stick around until they’re way older and they won’t want to spend time with you or will find it to be a chore.

Also, a good tip for people wanting to visit St. George in the busy season, look for places to stay in Hurricane. It's right next to St. George, but much less busy.

I have 4 kids as well. We’ve found this great little VRBO on the Tennessee river in Chattanooga. We go every year. There is plenty of room for all Of us. We have access to kayaks, canoes, fishing, swimming, boating, grills, making a bonfire, ax throwing all included. Plus Chattanooga has so many cool hiking trails and parks. Let alone the cool stuff to do downtown. Even just walking around by the river. Ride the carousel, free splash pad etc. I bring all our own food or stop at the aldi down the road. Super cheap.

We just celebrated our 42nd anniversary and decided to go to pigeon forge tn. my sister and brother in law asked if they could join us so that was cool! I had been saving for this trip since july hoping that it wouldn't get too expensive! good news, it did cost more then what I had saved, but what I had saved helped the bottom line! so thanks for all of your advise! loved the video! I live in LA and feel the need to escape the city on a regular basis, so St. George has become my go-to place to escape and enjoy nature since it’s only about a 5.5 hour drive, such a great place and so much cheaper than where I live (at this point I even have a hairdresser in St. George since it’s about half the price of getting my haircut in LA). If you haven’t hiked the Elephant Arch yet, I recommend that one!
