I put these subs in my wife’s Camry with a 350 watt MTX amplifier and she’s happy with it. I actually had a 10,000 watt MTX amp back in 2009 before I understood how important the proper electrical in a vehicle was and I blew one of the capacitors completely off the board inside the amp. Lesson learned though. I now have three alternators and 4/0 welding cables going to three AGM batteries and three Ioxis Ultracapacitors!!!

I had some HiVi 6” mids that sounded like total garbage to the point where I wanted to kick them in, but after about 6 hours or so of letting them play when I was out doing yard work they change dramatically for the better. I think with subwoofers to “break them in” is for the good for its longevity more so than to make it sound better. For the most part the spiders are made of cloth, just like a pair of jeans, they always feel better after you wear them a few times.

Hey I been doing car audio for 20 years. Some of that I did it for a living and I got a system that will do 154DB in my daily. I got this set up for my wife’s car when she just wanted a little sound. I did these 2-12s with a 800.1 pioneer amp (MTX) and I put some mid grade pioneer mids and highs in her car and I was impressed with the money I had spent. I pushed them hard and even put my JL 1000.1 amp on them which pushed them harder and they kept pounding. At one point I was going to buy 2 more of these 12s and do a custom box just to prove what you can do with a budget build if you box, amp and wiring is on point. It’s not all about the subs. I’d give 5 stars for what I paid.

Capacitor the size of a tall boy. I read all the Car Stereo Review magazinss and I was building my system for sound quality, but man that sealed box 12 hit hard as hell and everything sounded great with that setup. I used to love MTX (Mitek Group) woofers back in the late 1980's. I remember the MTZ Crankers (square magnet), Blue Thunders, and the Terminators. I ran different combinations of all of those and depending on the enclosure I put them into, they were always outstanding performing drivers. Sure, there were more expensive name brands ie: Rockford Fosgate, Boston Acoustics, JBL, Cerwin Vega, etc. Bottom line, for what the MTX drivers cost, they always were a great performing woofer for the price and they all took a ton of abuse! Love your channel sir. I just subscribed because you put it out straight, with no bull-dinkie. Nice! Fred

As a bass head, you give me some serious things to think about in this video. My only question is, what about the lows? A lot of the music I listen to is screwed and plays into the 20hz range. I'm thinking that the extra power needed to push low notes in a setup like that would blow the subs. Addendum: I do have to acknowledge the fact that you spoke about younger people looking for a cheaper way to get loud, so it makes sense to me. My 1st system was similar. 2 Pioneer Immp 12's in a sealed box on an Autotek Mean Machine 90. It was BANGN. You could here it from a few blocks away. Stuntn on my friends with the wood grain Pioneer stereo with the wood grain remote. Bringing back memories on a ninja. I think it might be prudent to do the SPL sweep at or near the rated wattage rather than at such a low power, that way you have a more accurate guess as to where it'll peak with high power. Or otherwise, wherever you find the mechanical power limit, back that off 25-50% and run it down from like 70-30hz unless it's a really low-tuned setup. Crazy to see another easy 140dB on the meter (I know it's a sinewave in the kick, but still) but I'm still hyped to see a "budget" 145+ on music on the dash.

I have the 55 series and 75 series. I can tell you, they dont like power too long. You will definitely start smelling them. Both series sound great though. I have 12s and 15s

How long? They won't last a two hour drive?
@off68486 күн бұрын
That sounds like a coil material problem

@warriorplutotrent3827 let me clarify. They start smelling within some mins if you running too much power. It's hard to explain here. They will be fine at close to rms

@jlee8262 oh ok. Ill pass on these then. I wanted to take them back to Nigeria with me next year. I have a single 10 inch kicker competition ⁴ ohms running on an 1500watt amp but inwamt something that hits harder. The setup in the video looks like it will fit my corolla though.

About 20 years ago is when I ran MTX and I bought 6 MTX 12 terminators or something that was re-manufactured, had a red basket, red stitching, small magnet etc. for $13 so I bought 6 of them. I only ran one in my trunk in a ported 2ish foot enclosure that I built. Had a pawnshop over kill MTX amplifier black with raised gold lettering, still have it don’t remember what it is and it was the cleanest sounding sub I had ever used, it was perfect. It wasn’t going to blow the windows out of the car but for driving down the road for hours and listening the thing was rockin and wasn’t fatiguing. I still have them sitting in the basement unused, unopened waiting for nothing. I didn’t care if it blew up or if someone stole it, but it never died. I remember people listening to it and they were amazed, because it looked like something out of a pair of headphones. Since then I’ve never knocked MTX. I would still like to get a hold of one of those gigantic jackhammers and build a plexiglass coffee table/sub box around it for a conversation piece.

Didnt they use to sell this at Circuit City back in the day? If so, I had it. Had no idea how to set amps back then either. They hung in there for a few months🤣 I liked them.

I am def impressed they didnt smoke from the multiple 4k bursts especially the 60hz lol. With them being sealed they prob have pretty good SQ too, tight and punchy.
@BudgetBassHead2 күн бұрын
Yeah, these subs are surprisingly tough.

The terminator boxes were all originally ported at one time , even the truck boxes

What wattage would you be comfortable running these at rms everyday,so they last the longest time?
@BudgetBassHead5 күн бұрын
500 should do great.

@BudgetBassHead I have the mtx jackhammer 1200 I am going to try these against my old kicker silver front subs and see how they sound, with a better box they would definitely sound better. A guy posted a 1000 watt amp and 2 JL audio 12sw3 like new in a $300 custom box for $200 bucks , I missed it by 5 minutes they sold in 10 minutes, there's great deals on marketplace but you have to be fast. Great deal on these $130, you can put more money into mids tweets and amps to get a system going.

The MTX (3) 10 inch Blue Thunder subs with an MTX PRO3002 was my first system i bought when i started working at Circuit City in 1998. I'm still a professional installer to this day and i get sad thinking about what happened to MTX. We were a dealer for many years and then in like 2010ish they decided they didnt want any brick and mortar retailers and were going to online sales only. Safe to say they realized that was an awful idea and its going to be very difficult to ever make a real comeback but i wish them luck.

Who's here because of the Old "Thunder 9500's"??? MTX wasn't playing back then, them bad boys got Low!!!! I've heard both 1 fed all it wanted & 2 getting twice at 4ohms what they called for tearing up a trunk😲. Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, & even Rockford (per Power series) had nothing on the 9500's!!!!

Sure, short bursts with 4kW is fun. But PLEASE make a real-life torture test for these. Just put a playlist on and blast these with for example 1200w for 24 hours straight.
@BudgetBassHead4 күн бұрын
I don't really believe in burning up subs. They should be passed on to someone who actually love them and take care of them.

@@BudgetBassHead For consumer info it would be good. I am really interested in buying this kit and want to know how much power it could handle in a long run, not just 2second tests

Not gonna lie, if I was still 20 I would rock these in a second. They look clean and hit pretty good. Back then I had 2 12” JBLs and a terrible ass Koiler amp which would overheat and shut down every 45 minutes. But I still thought I was the shit lol

This speaker is old as hell that they are still producing in 2024. It was Bad assed for 2000's, still kicks now as a starter setup. got one from like 2008 in my shed and is still the same speakers no difference. I wish they had upgraded version for 2024.

@jasonhobbs3115 күн бұрын
Agreed. It's just so tight and accurate compared to ported, which can be a little boomy and sloppy if not tuned just right. I have ported now but I'm going sealed. I just love the accuracy. Don't ask me why I'm running an audiopipe bdc412 SPL subwoofer in a ported box while seeking SQ quality lol

Rear firing into the trunk. Try moving the enclosure 6 to 8 inchs from the lid and run test
