T-Line Design: Formula

I've been a fan of "quarterwaves" for about 18 years now. Got tired of messing with Martin Kings formulas and spent many hours playing with simple lines and testing on LMS and RTA mics and learned everything I needed. But all my testings with strait, tapered, horn, iso, 4th 6th order, passive radiator coupled, M horn etc, my favorite has been the 4th order Quarterwave- hands down. I'm currently working on my comp car 2-18s in a 4th order quarterwave the line is 30-31hz long but I should be peaking around 20 Hz for my particular install and comp class.

If you want any help with t lines shoot me a message I've built 36 not claiming I'm a boss or anything but I like helping and learning ps you can get huge output out of a 12 tuned to 30 as far as a t line and still dig to 20 or 25 depending on the sub

Hey bro I'm having difficulty getting a good bandpass for my 15 mojo615d4 it hits low well then drops out and picks back up in higher frequency kind of like 2 mountains on the frequency graph. Not sure if width of port is off length is off or both? Any help would be great

With a Mounting depth of 5 how did you offset the Sub ? (Spacer or a total front covering) and if using a covering did u add the 1/2-3/4 thickness to your total line length? Also does the line length start at the Subs center line or the inside edge of the starting point to the exit port ? Good explanation of the T-Line and your videos are Bad A#$

If using two drivers, does the Sd double or do you only have to calculate for one driver? Also, do you have to use the recommended air space for the driver?

So on my skat evl 18 the sd is 1164.1 cm2 and the port area is 55.5inch2. If you do the math 1164.1cm2 to inch2 is 180.436? I’m confused

Thank you for the video, my name is Shawn, question, is a folded horn the same as a t-line as far as fz range. I want to build either folded horn or t-line to cover midbass fz's ~80-400 range. Or am I way off track with that plan. I've got plenty of room in my van and dsp great amps to do the job.

If I use more than one woofer does that mean I will need to add up all of the radiating surfaces to determine the "line area"! I am thinking about building a TL tower with 8 four inch drivers and a tweeter. Or should Just port the thing..?

transmission align the port with the FS of the driver meaning they both move the same space of air forward in Sync which add 3db over a ported enclosure, your middle desing isnt T-Line

T-Lines are a bit Different than most builds. But no, It depends on many parameters. As many of them are contingent upon each other.

love the channel very helpfull and informative! need a little extra help if you would? im always trying to get a little more out it you know what i mean!? my so and i built my truck with audio video and lighting as the main foucus! we plan on having fun and doing some shows! he loves music and and music production and hes only 9 already a bass head! so we did a blow through 6th order in a 2006 f150 super crew with the four full doors. what we used dont get me wrong it sounds fantastic! but like i said a little more! Subwoofers (4 )Sundown Audio Sa8s v3 box ratio is 1-1 tuned at 36 hz and 61hz Subwoofer Amp Stetsom 9k EQ (Amp is bad A,.........!) Mids &. Highs (4 )6 &n 1/2 kicker components (Planning on doubling these) Mid and high amp Stetsom so after watching this video i thought about a build for the truck did all the math but i doont know what the end result of the boxes tunnhimg would be? I tried to down load that win program for building box but it dosnt work for mac and thne other recomended onhe for mac was giving me issues, so i just did the math work if i figure out how to post piuc of box designs id likje some input please!??

The t-line running is that of is fs. What's more important, is total come area to determine line length.

Hi guys, the first design with the 2 speakers one in the sealed section and one in the ported section, Now do these speakers work in phase or out off phase. I would think out off phase. If both speaker cones move forward they will cancel each other out. So the sealed speaker moves forward and the port speaker moves back, then the pressure wave rolls out off the port. Please please can somebody comment on this. Thanks so much.

Transmission line speakers roll off at 6db per octave from the tuned frequency of the enclosure, bass reflex designs roll of at 12 db per octave.

I've built a T-Line enclosure for a 6,5" sub using this formula and it sounds great at low/medium volume but at higher volumes when the sub gets to move, a lot of turbulence starts to occurs at the port. Any idea of what causes this?

did you put 45 degree angles in your enclosure corners to assist with air flow? The final bend of the line it's critical that you do this. Also, place some acoustic dampening material in the line, preferably in the beginning of the line, it helps dramatically with resonance and air flow.

@@crazyexperiments4815 I trust you did the math right but try increasing the surface area of the port a little bit. It may lower the velocity of the air exiting it, reducing the "chuffing" sound

The human ear can't hear anything below 20hz anyways, it's physically impossible. So bass under 20 is always just felt, the only thing you would hear is port noise or the driver itsself.

Actually, people CAN hear below 20hz. Just not everybody. 20hz is an average.
