We live in Australia and spend $400 a month at the supermarket, this is our grocery budget however it's not just food, we buy all our household needs also inc toilet paper, shampoo and conditioner, razors, personal hygiene needs, cat food, washing powder and dishwashing tablets, this is for 2 people and a cat so it works out to $300USD a month, it can be done quite easily

The vlogbrothers have said that KZbin Red (subscription which has no adds, video and music downloads, etc) pays a creator way more than adsense. I don't personally have it, but if any viewers have some extra money ($10 a month) that is also an option. I am very happy that you are continuing after being debt free! You are my personal favorite budget vlogger. Fun budget thing that has happened the past two weeks-- I have a soy intolerance and finding bread and peanut butter that I can have is expensive. But the two grocery stores I frequent have those peanut grinders, and its MUCH cheaper (several dollars cheaper) to buy peanut butter that way and it is really, really good. I am utilizing my universities student health center to get flu medicine tomorrow (I am really mad about getting sick). Because I pay a health fee with tuition, I will get care without added cost which is really nice. It means I don't have to walk into a store and finding health care in my town is really challenging. Happy budgeting!

You are such a wonderful person! :) I am lucky to never have been in debt, but am guilty of not having been smart with my money. I am 25 years old, and still live at home, and instead of saving my income, I use to go out on spending sprees and spend most of it on food, clothes and entertainment. i have been working for years, but don't have much to show for it... As fortunate as I am to not have put myself in deep financial trouble, the situation would have been so different had I been living on my own or run into some financial crisis. Thank you for teaching us the importance of preparing for the unexpected and securing your future. It is a lesson that i am SO GLAD I finally learned. GOOD LUCK with the rest of your journey! You are going to kick your debt in the BUTT!

I generally agree with your advice and I think in many cases, it is best to get rid of student loan debt. However, with the public service loan forgiveness program (PSLF), borrows only need to make 120 payments (nonconsecutive, meaning any 120 payments even if you miss some months) while working for a public entity or a 501(c)(3) company, which includes most private universities and hospitals. You can combine PSLF with an income based program like IBR, PAYE, REPAYE, meaning that you only have to pay 10% of your discretionary income, which can be quite low or even zero for some people for those 120 payments. The PSLF was a part of the promissory note that borrowers have signed since 2007, so any loans taken out after that assumes that borrowers could take advantage of this program. If the government retroactively took away PSLF, those borrowers could sue the government and potentially invalidate the debt because of the government's breach of contract. In any case, changes to these programs are almost always never done for current loan holders, only future borrowers, because of the public outcry that would occur if they ever did some sort of bait and switch. In using this program if you also qualify for income based repayment, you will free up likely hundreds or even thousands of dollars per month you can use to saving for a house, contributing to retirement, etc.

This might be a dumb question but I know you mentioned watching the ads that play before your videos helps you earn money (which I am all for helping out with) but when we opt to "skip ad" does that not count as watching the ad? Unrelated to budgets, but Sarah, royal and sapphire blue are definitely YOUR best color to wear, at least near your face in this video. I bet a true rich purple would look great on you as well. So, to my question: I know that you have had success using CapOne360's virtual accounts in your debt payoff journey, and that you have a different local brick-n-mortar bank to use in town for the non-virtual transactions; how do you get things moved back and forth other than e-payments/xfers etc, for example when you have cash to deal with or a check to get into your virtual CapOne360 accounts? Or is the local bank used for most everything except your savings/sinking funds done thru CapOne360? ot trying to be so personal, just curious about the moving between accounts when one is virtual only? Also, with going cash-only [no credit cards], do you have any problems, say with buying a vehicle IF it were necessary to buy using a small, short term loan rather than full cash for the car? I was taught that FICO was critical, but if one can do cash only then I guess it does not matter. What's your experience with FICO scores and credit history in general? Has any landlord ever required such credit data either? I've heard that renters often have very rigid hoops to jump through, and have heard that even folks applying for jobs have to provide their PAYMENT HISTORIES/FICO scores to potential employers! Whaaa...? Wow it just gets more & more Big Brotherish! I have a few stories to relate of my own but are way too long to type here. All of mine started with tragic beginnings and while they had an ending with the eventual desired resolution, let's just say that credit/loan approvals done on standardized form documents and analyzed by a computer and its rigid algorithms, I've always been rejected upfront as a square peg in round hole -- until I insisted on speaking with a human loan officer. I have yet to be denied the loan I needed once I 'pleaded my case' with my history to back it up, again proving that I'll never fit the mainstream [fiscal] formula of the general public, but have always been a zero risk to any lender. Keep up the great work slaying that debt dragon. You'll get 'er done sooner than you can imagine!

If I had to be in debt I wish it was only $11,000. I crunched some numbers a couple of months ago and we are $171,000 in debt and that doesn't include my $250,000 mortgage. Man this sucks. We started whittling away at it last month and we got one of our brand new cars paid off in three weeks with $6,000 remaining at the start of pay off on the seven year car loan and paid it off at the five year mark last week. Next debt is on the table now which is one of our many credit cards with a $5,000 balance. The scary thing is I don't know how we amassed so much debt, but at least we learned our lesson. I am estimating this $171,000 mess will be paid off in full summer of 2018, then I can start working on my house which should take another 1.5 years to pay that off. I can only imagine the feeling of freedom with absolutely no debt. Right now to pay minimums on everything including the mortgage is almost $6,000 a month. I hope we don't loose our jobs that would be a disaster, but right now I don't see that.

I also like your review of the foods you've eaten each week. I think without the reviews less people would consider making the recipes you use. It is especially helpful when you tell us how the food held up the entire week. Very informative. Speaking of finances I've heard two things and I want another opinion. I've heard to save 20% of income and I've heard 30% of income should be saved. What is your recommendation? What works for us is saving and tossing as much as possible toward debt. We save for repeating things like car registration and also unforeseen medical expenses. Worst case scenario type of things which is a necessity for us with our health issues. I wanted to thank you for a video about your fitbit. I think you said it broke and you contacted the company and they sent you a replacement. Well, the same thing happened to me and I would not have thought to contact the company why I don't know. Anyway they sent me another fitbit.

Did you say $300,000 in student loan debt? I mean I dont know if they'd be able to pay off all that in the 10 years it would take for the government program, depends on income of course but 300k would be very difficult unless you had a good 6 figure income
