been subscribed since august '19, and it's been so cool and relatable to see your growth the past year and a half! I've recommended you to friends of mine who are trying to get out of student loan debt, making $30-40k/year and just don't see a light at the end of the tunnel or have convinced themselves they're going to be in debt until they're in their 40's. I didn't start out with student loans (very grateful) but moved back home with the intention of going back to school to become a dietitian, and had maybe $500 to my name. In the last year and a half I've saved over $40,000 (my income in 2019 was 21k and was just a hair over 43k in 2020), have been able to cash-flow my tuition payments, and am on track to graduate totally debt free next spring! thank you for all of the motivation, encouragement, and for being so real and down to earth. watching your channel has shown me that you don't need to be a high earner or have family/spousal support to achieve your money goals - you just need to stay consistent and keep your end goal in mind.

This year I managed to pay off 2-3 credit cards (woo hoo!), and have savings for the first time in my life! All our vehicles are paid off as well! I still have student loans and 2 more credit cards to pay off. And then all I’ll have is our mortgage. It’s been a good year for paying down debt.

I discovered you several months ago and so glad I did. I went out to your Etsy shop and bought your budget spreadsheet. I was excited at how you set it up and the percentages. I did change mine to work with Excel and for me I added some columns (ie: input date a payment cleared my bank). Plus you follow the Dave Ramsey principles in handling finances. Big score there. I shared your KZbin channel with my daughter. You are an inspiration to others. Thank you.

I had a similar experience. The school I work for has been negotiating a new three year contract. The final approval for the new contract happened at the end of March. As people were losing their jobs, I got an 8% raise. I didn't tell anyone until the very end of 2020. It felt inapprorpriate to share when it happened.

My big 2020 win - selling one of my rental houses that I bought as foreclosure back in 2012. A 2020 fail was not being proactive and planning out tasks for me to accomplish on evenings and weekends. I found that if I don't write out a to do list, I tend to just do the basic house chores, walk my dog and read (I love to read). So, I am working on writing a to do list for at least the weekends, every weekend in order to get stuff accomplished. I really liked this video. Thanks for sharing.

Sarah, I've been gone for over two years. Watching you a bit past your debt free scream but then got second breast cancer so switched to health videos. I did become debt free EBTM and met Dave. Now down 65 lbs, I have more energy so thinking of starting KZbin channel. I said to myself, "Who is really good at this?" Hmmm, guess who I thought of. So glad to see how happy and how well you are doing. Here we go 2021!!!!

Congrats on everything you’ve achieved! At the start of 2020 I was saving for a trip to Canada (from Australia), sort of had a vague idea that I would start saving for a house after that, but nothing firm. Well the pandemic hit and I had to postpone that trip indefinitely (hadn’t booked anything so no money loss). I was fortunate that my job was safe, and I even earned more money for a while because it got so busy and I worked more hours. I wasn’t going out to eat (places were closed for a few months), and I was forced into better money habits. I liked seeing the the number in my bank account growing, and I decided to get serious about saving for a house. I found your KZbin channel, as well as an Aussie podcast I love called “She’s on the money”. I feel so much more educated about personal finance now, and feel like I have a good future again! I’ve been doing a zero based budget for a few months now, and it really works for me :-) Since March 2020 I have increased my savings by around 13K (on a low income). My goal for 2021 is to add a further 13K to my savings, and get my side hustle Etsy store up and runnning! Thanks for all of your inspirational videos! Happy New Year, all the best for 2021! 💕

Woo Hoo Alysse, way to pivot and make some great progress in a hectic year! That 13K extra is FANTASTIC and something you should be so proud of! It's so important to celebrate those wins along the way! I hope you can keep that forward momentum rolling into 2021, and hit that extra 13K goal! Best of luck from Canada's southern neighbor, and hope it's a great year for you ! 😊

In 2020 I had quite a few home costs that fortunately I was prepared to cover. I replaced a washer and dryer, a furnace, air conditioner and my water heater. I also replaced my gutters which included adding gutter guards. Lastly I replaced wood trim around both my garage door and and bay window. Fortunately I was able to finance my furnace, AC, and water heater for 18 months at 0 interest rate. So I chose to finance half of the amount instead of paying all of it upfront. I am so grateful that I started a house fund about 8 years ago. Was it hard to see the amount in my fund go down...absolutely...but the peace of mind of not worrying about my furnace potentially breaking down when it was freezing is immeasurable. One final thing in my pursuit to get the best deal I researched energy rebates and will be able to get a $300 rebate from one of my providers where I live. I also learned that every two years of maintenance that I can document on my furnace I can get an additional $25 rebate. Congratulations on a great 2020 Sarah!!

Some 2020 wins: I found and started watching your videos -- love your spirit and smarts and energy! I also stopped avoiding really looking at my retirement accounts -- I got out of managed accounts with fees I shouldn't have been paying, and now I have a much better picture of what our retirement outlook is. Also, when our family spring break trip had to be canceled I thought we wouldn't be able to get our plane tickets (4 round trip) refunded so I almost didn't try, but I decided I might as well and was pleasantly surprised that the airline refunded the full amount that I thought we'd just lose. 2020 fails: The main one that comes to mind is that I kept paying for optional monthly coffee service at the office I didn't step foot into for over 8 months, because it didn't occur to me to cancel it and I didn't look closely enough at my invoices to notice the line item. ☹️ Oh, and I'm self-employed, and with the pandemic my business brought in less than half of what I'd made in the last few years. But I was very, very thankful that my husband and I didn't lose our jobs like so many did. Happy New Year! I'm sure your success and net worth will continue to soar!
@moneybee4 жыл бұрын
Way to go being proactive to get those airline tickets refunded! It's amazing how if you are respectfully assertive, you can achieve some amazing things! Glad to hear that you have a clearer view of your retirement picture too! Keep up that great work into 2021! 😊

Love your pup! Thanks for sharing. I wish high schools would implement a personal financial management class that’s mandatory. It would help get kids off to a great start! Many homes don’t talk about money, credit, etc. Hunter cats, like my Sebastian, gets rid of rats ... for good! This past year he raided their nests and killed all the babies, and mom. Sad but necessary. This is after clearing the hills we live in, a problem this property had experienced for as long as anyone could remember. Yeah! I even caught him on one of our cameras catching a huge wood rat in the wild, on the hill where I struggled to see him. Your raise was a gift from God girl, right on. Many blessings to you and your superior who thought highly of you and wanted to help keep you there and happy. Have you ever done a video on starting a KZbin channel? Cameras, lighting, paperwork, etc. I’d sure love it, and appreciate it.

You look seriously glowy! Those are some big changes but over all it seems like a great year financially for you. We've just steadily been able to keep saving. One win was being able to nearly fully pay for a really expensive car repair. We have a savings account we put money into each month just for car repairs/registration/up keep, and we had finally saved 2k into that account when my husband's paid for car need a 2400 dollar repair. As sad as it was to see that amount empty out it felt so good to not be worried or stressed about how we were gonna pay for it or to have to go into debt especially when we don't know what's coming for any of us after this year. Peace of mind is an absolute win for us.

Thank you for honestly sharing your house buying experience. It seems to me that there is shame for buying a home in the "financial community " if you don't buy the way Dave Ramsey recommends. I know many people YTubers have now come out to voice where they agree and don't agree with him but it seems most people do not address his opinion about home buying. Maybe this is because they hadn't reached that phase when they made their video but none the less I have firmly decided that home buying is not a one size fits all.

Win: my net worth grew by about $33K which is amazing considering how this year went! You are absolutely right that it is so much easier to build wealth without debt. In the 6.5 years since I graduated with my masters, I’ve been debt free (no student loans left and paid my car off) for almost two years and my net worth exploded in that time. And then of course, the more wealth you have the faster it will grow :) Fail: putting off opening a Roth IRA and moving my money to a high yield savings account 😭 in the process of doing both now but I wish I had done it earlier!

Win: All the money I managed to save by doing feck all for the whole year I used to overpay my mortgage so have cut nearly 1/3 off the repayment life (well not just last year, just hate having debt).

You helped me to realize that it is possible to pay back my student loans even on my income.

Keep doing monthly budgets, frugal living and stuffing cash envelope videos and I think you will be relatable no matter what phase people are in.

Congratulations on an amazing year!! I love your videos and feel like you're a friend. Also, I might ask to borrow Maggie sometime, k? My biggest win this year was to get through a really tough financial year making the most of the government support we got while my spouse and I lost 90% of our income due to the pandemic. We put a lot in savings, didn't go into massive credit card debt, and I managed to max out my Roth IRA for the first time ever. Also, took the forced time off to start my new business/side hustle.

Well done on that Roth! What kind of side business did you start Eowyn? That's such an exciting thing to carry into 2021 and I hope it proves to be fun, rewarding, and profitable! 😊

It's not hard Eric! It might be at first... but it gets easier:). Just sit with pen & paper and dedicate it at least 15 minutes every week- it will start coming to you. Write your income, exspenses, needs, and wants. I can help you more, if you need more help... really😊

The harder you work the luckier you get. Student loans, rats, stock market drop, low wage job, multiple side hustles. She worked hard, she was not lucky.
