First Reaction to Budgie and their song Breadfan, of course I have heard the Metallica version of this song, but I have never heard the original version of Breadfan by the band Budgie, from the album "Never Turn your Back on a Friend" so let's do this!!

Rip Burke Shelley. Great band with Tony Bourge in the seventies. I didn’t really care much for their later material once Bourge left the band. They became another NWOBHM faceless band. Imfo

Wasn't the producer of the Budgie album / or album's' the same guy that produced the black sabbath albums. And didn't Bourke Shelley go on to produce a metallica album ... Justice for all ??? They were the main act at some European Rock Festival ( similar to Woodstock). I know their album covers were done by Roger Dean. And apparently Judas Priest inspired by them. And to finish off.... I bought the first 6 albums when they first came out in Australia ( still got them ).... and in the last 45 yrs, I've only met a handful of people that have ever heard of them. PS. I know a 20yr old girl that looks like Bourke Shelley.

Yep, this was another song Metallica butchered on their many cover recordings. To each their own, but I never liked Hetfield's vocals when they covered this song. I love the original version way better. Burke Shelley's vocals fit the song.

Want to hear my budgie story? Just just kidding no story story but I heard of these guys when I was a kid before I heard of Metallica when I told you I first moved out to the Bay Area when I was in high school. I always thought they were good. I like this video I've been listening to music different lately being guitar player I've always listen to Just the guitar part. But lately I've been focusing on the drums. Because there's so many pieces and parts and different sounds going on. What I like that this guy's doing right here and you might know this Shane D if you played the drums. Is the part where he's opening and closing the high hat with his foot while he's using his hands to do other things. Super cool.

Bread fan is my favourite along with cover of Baby Please Don't Go which is back to back intro on their 1975 Best of Budgie. Anne Neggen, Sky High Percentage and Black Velvet Stallion on If I were Brittania I'd Waive The Rules album are great tunes. Florence Black a current young metal band out of Wales does a better cover of Breadfan than Metallica.

I like the music of this band. I can't stand the vocals. They should have hired someone who could actually sing as a frontman, which probably explains why they always remained a cult band. I can take Geddy Lee. I can't take this guy. As you said, he sounds like a woman.
