Breeding budgie is a very interesting thing to do but some things as to be considered and put in place for successful breeding. After getting your breeding pair it is important to inspect them. They will need to be healthy, over 10 months, and well bonded. If they are from the same family, it is best to split them up and introducing another make or female to breed from.

I bought 3 pairs of budgies in the month of July. In the month of December all the three pairs mated and laid eggs. In one nest box two chicks have hatched. Its wonderful to sit with them and watch the babies. My budgies are very close to me.

I'm having trouble as I'm new to budgie owning. I'm not exactly sure how old they are but definitely not babies. Got them from a breeder. One is luna (white with some gray spots) (she?) has a purplish pink cere and my (male?) Jubi (blue) are very close and are never away from each other, preen and feed each other. But I can't get them to breed. I put a nesting box in but neither are interested. Anyone have any ideas?

You shouldn't ever be * "taking" * ANY of their chicks to hand feed...EVER! Not only is it completely and entirely UNNECESSARY...... it's just plain *STUPID* . The *ONLY* time it is ever even necessary or needed to hand feed or *take* a chick away from it's *PARENT BIRDS* to feed it.... is only *IF* it ever becomes obviously clear that they are struggling to manage, or for whatever reason just simply *CAN'T* , feed all of their babies on their OWN. Only *IF* that were to ever happen is hand feeding *ever* even needed or necessary to try to do...... and not at *ANY* other time!! It's always best and healthiest for the *BABY BIRDS* for their own parents to *always* be feeding them as much as possible.... even until about 2 weeks or so *after* they leave their nest box on their own and then only *when & if* they need their help feeding even then... before they finally learn to fully feed *themselves* . Human interference to hand feed baby birds at *ANY* other time or for *ANY* other reason than the parent birds *NOT* being able to do it on their own....... is only done solely for the selfish, egotistical and *ignorant af* needs of the *PERSON* that thinks their "help" is even needed.... much less even necessary. You can still "hand tame" or "socialize" baby birds while they are still very small....... either by getting them use to human hands/fingers petting and holding them while they are still inside the nest box or AFTER they first come out of the nest box on their own. You *never* need to do it by ever *TAKING* them from their parents just to get to hand feed them. And anybody that does so is just simply a complete and total *IDIOT* that doesn't have a flippin clue wtf they are even doing.... much less has *ANY* business whatsoever trying to breed and raise baby birds!!

You should *NOT* EVER let female budgies over 3 yrs old be breeding/mating! Why??--- Because *BEFORE* at least one full year old and *AFTER* 3 yrs old..... female budgies are at the *highest* risk of getting Egg Bound and *DIEING* if they *DO* try to lay any eggs before/after those specific ages. It's because of their inability to digest & process Calcium and Protein properly and the most effectively before and after those ages in their lives....... which they definitely *NEED* in order to produce the healthiest eggs & chicks. Calcium deficiency is the most major concern. Without proper Calcium intake and retention....... your female bird runs at *VERY* high risk for producing eggs with either way too soft a shell or abnormal shell formation and shape. BOTH of which will cause her to become Egg Bound and most likely die either while trying to push that egg out OR the shell just simply breaking while it's still inside her as she tries to push it out. Which will literally cause her to start rotting/decaying from the inside out bc of all the remaining shell/yolk still stuck inside her- which results in a very long and painful death for that bird. It's always best to RETIRE a female bird after she reaches 3 yrs old from any more egg laying and simply just select a younger bird of proper age (at least 1 yrs old) that's much better suited for brooding as your new Brood Hen and then get HER a new mate to Bond with, if you intend on letting your birds produce any more babies.

Hello, great info! I need help with my birdos. My ready female keeps trying to grab the males attention but when she does she’s a bit rough since she gets so excited. My male budgie likes a baby female!! He keeps trying to mate with her but I’m scared since she is just about 6 months old? Not until the last chick leaves the nest on it's own. And then remove the nest box that very *SAME* instant the last chick comes out of it.... so that the parent birds don't immediately begin to start mating again to get their NEXT clutch of eggs/chicks started in that box again!! On rare occasions, though... younger parent birds in their mating/brooding prime ages and eager af (between 1 to 2 yrs old) will sometimes not even wait to start beginning their next clutch until the last current chick or two has left the nest box on their own (the *last* 1-3 chicks that hatched).... after the first few chicks finally get big enough start leaving it (the *first* few chicks that hatched about a full week or more before the others did). So they will either just abandon (stop feeding & taking care of) or flat out *KILL* the last smallest current chick or two before they can leave the nest box on their own.... just so that they CAN immediately get started on making their next clutch of eggs/chicks. When/If this *does* ever happen.... it's best to either just remove the nest box from the parent birds right away from the cage completely OR remove the remaining chick(s) from the nest box & that cage to separate them from the parent birds in to a different cage or container altogether and then start hand-feeding them regularly until they get big enough to finally start eating on their own. Because if you *don't* ..... that baby chick(s) will die a very slow and painful death. Either from simple starvation or all the nasty & fatal injuries that it *WILL* end up getting all over it's little eyes, head and body from all the attacks by it's own parent's very SHARP beaks trying to pluck out what feathers it's managed to grow so far.... just to get rid of it.

Sahil Shaikh Have you tried to check her up closely?? maybe she is stressed or not feeling safe... i would change her diet and maybe cage placement also cover up the cage at night it’s winter after all. that being said i have seen some articles and cases where the eggs are stuck inside the hen and can’t drop them sometimes egg is too large or they are too many of them and they get stuck check her up and look if that is the case then it might need to be surgically removed... that or female isn’t fertile try to replace her with another one.
