@mikeziniti11 ай бұрын
From the NFL rule book: “Any quick abrupt movement by a single offensive player, or by several offensive players in unison, which simulates the start of the snap, is a false start.” So yes, if the whole offensive line starts moving laterally in the same direction, that would simulate the start of the snap and would be a false start.

@fredsakay99411 ай бұрын
@@mikeziniti it doesn't apply to the shift. Look through rulebook carefully and you will see that lineman is allowed to shift too until he sets in 3 or 4 point (his hand is on the ground). In this case it would be false start. If lineman is in 2-point stance he can shift. I am offensive coordinator and shift my OL on Swinging Gate formations. It was bad call from ref. In NFL they just don't see that stuff often like in college creative football that's why Hussie was confused and threw flag. Provided linemen set on new positions and remain still for at least 1 full second before the snap. The fact that one of shifting player started moving on new position (extending hand to point on opponent) triggered foul likely

Some of these plays are just going to be standard offense (especially the _HB direct snap to the edge featuring a fake reverse to the QB_ ). I love to see creative trick plays. As a Brit who has played rugby and American football I’d love to see more laterals downfield after an initial forward pass. If you practice it enough the players would be confident throwing the lateral pass and it would keep the defenders honest.
@onlinetuna11 ай бұрын
The backward pass/lateral rule isn't the same as in rugby. The pass must be backward relative to the field. Whereas in rugby it must be backward relative to the player throwing it. This makes laterals much more difficult in the nfl as passes can easily drift forward with the players' momentum, this would be illegal in the NFL.
@garethdesborough796011 ай бұрын
@@onlinetuna yes I appreciate that but it ought still to be coachable. I’m not suggesting that players attack using passes in exactly the same way as rugby players, just that coaching downfield players who do not have possession to be always ready to accept a backward pass might be a useful strategy.

@@mesc681 I understand that, but just like every team practices QB scramble drills, likewise they could also practice hook & ladder plays. Im not suggesting them be used every play. But its rare to see them executed except for the last play/hail mary option. Kelce went off script a few times and was successful each time. Imagine if teams practiced it more and or receivers just had an understanding of the play based on their route, the defenses positions. they could be alert to the possibility of it happening.
