Nice! Breaking it down helps alot. Trained FMA, JKD, and Silat for over 5 yrs now. All three complement each other.

Breaking it down helps a lot but is it the only way when it's gonna work? Best working self defense moves are simple and complicated things and moves rarely does the job if you are countering a live human. I believe that those moves works if these brothers put some gear up and show it on full speed, like a real life would happen

Do you have any videos that show these techniques in live sparring?

watch Anderson Silva kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2nFg6Crqbyal7M nice examples from 3:40 kzbin.info/www/bejne/goWZeo1saNSWY7c obviously he mixes up many styles, but plenty of trapping, wing chun, muay thai clinch etc
@patrickmoler80252 жыл бұрын
@@tartanhandbag eh. I will cut to the chase. What people percieve as wing-chun is in-fighting. To say Anderson Silva is a wingchun fighter is rediculous. These wing-chun guys don't kn9w what they are talking about 90% because they don't accurat3ly test their techniques.
@tartanhandbag2 жыл бұрын
@@patrickmoler8025 lol, of course saying that Anderson Silva is "a wing chun fighter" is indeed ridiculous ...but no one said that, so that's a moot point. i explicitly said he mixes up styles but includes plenty of trapping, wing chun, thai clinch etc, more than most anyway. he clearly trains some wing chun and he utilises trapping, i mean he's practicing on a wooden wing chun dummy in the video ffs. you asked for examples of these techniques used in live sparring, which i extend to full contact fighting, and i provided as such. that is all. i'm not big on wing chun either, i wouldn't bother training it, it has an unrealistic relationship to distance as most of the time people will either step in beyond the effective range of wing chun and clinch or step out out it. but there are a few good bits that can be thrown into other styles from time to time to mix it up and like, sure, you can say "that's not wing chun, it's just parrying" but like, yeah, that's what a pak sao is. i don't care what we call it, trapping is useful, being able to punch directly off a parry is useful, inside fighting is useful etc i think we're mostly in agreement here
@patrickmoler80252 жыл бұрын
@@tartanhandbag any useful "wing chun" techniques can be learned ina good striking program (boxing, kb, mt, MMA oriented striking). Training Wing Chun is borderline worthless. The Seagal stuff with Silva was just an admitted publicity stunt.

@jaketheasianguy33073 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't it be more simple and faster to just slip + parry the punch and do the split jab at the same time ( use eye jab if you're a JKD guy) ? By using trapping, you basically sacrificed the boxing stance and switched to WC stance just to do WC trapping and WC punches, which is fast but has less power and body structure behind them, and make things more complicated If you have space to move back a little bit, it would be more direct and simple to just lean back a bit and throw the sidekick straight to the knee cap or a teep to the body when they're moving in, no need to do any trap slap in close quarter
@volatileepiphanies55472 жыл бұрын
I like a lot of what you said. I would like to add that there is a lot of trapping that takes place in Muay Thai and MMA. If I was going to build a trapping game for boxing I would look at what has been proven to work with resistance and build off that. I did WC/JKD when I was younger, and in sparring I've rarely seen anyone pull off this style of Pak Sao/Backfist combo. What did work for my was grabbing the head on entry instead of focusing on the arms, and throwing WC style kicks. It looks a bit like the Thai Clinch, but it's different. The wooden dummy form actually opens with a trap that leads to a head grab, so there is precedent for this. The most important thing I learned is Wing Chun is NOT boxing, and if you try to apply it like boxing you will suffer.
