Chaz Siangco from Derobio Eskrima demonstrates key fundamentals of Filipino martial arts. In this video, he presents an effective progressive partner drill that imparts striking and defensive techniques.
Derobio Eskrima, meaning "Rhythm of the Horse," is a comprehensive martial art system that focuses on evading and conquering. Founded by Master Chaz Siangco and the Siangco Collective, it builds upon the Derobio Method of Eskrima taught by their maternal Grandfather, the late Great Grandmaster Braulio Tomada Pedoy. This expression of Eskrima integrates influences from various fighting styles, with an emphasis on progressive disarming techniques and versatile defense across different combat ranges. The core principle is encapsulated in "A.C.E Intent" (Advance, Cover, Empower), concentrating the mind on decisively neutralizing threats. Derobio Eskrima is about adaptability, efficiency, and control in combat.

The two hands hold version is called Tapado, which is also a power play with full force attack and defense.

"master the fundamentals" by watching a video? You damage your credibility with clickbait titles like that.

I wonder why people claim European swordsmanship is slower than this and yet we have a much shorter series of actions. Block-stab-block Bash-attack-block Block-grab-stab. Feinting is the most important skill with swords, followed by the ability to defend yourself with a blade.

Dude, the best defence is to run from the seen if there is a way,you only defend when there is no way out

Let the lagas offense execute the strike. That defense won't work. Do you know what lagas is? It is a stick fighting where all strikings are done in full force. No control at all. So the defense is also on full force as in a real fight.

That defense is only effective on demonstration but not on real fight. If the offense of executed on full force that defense won't work.

This display contradicts the basics of fencing. After the defense, the attack is obliged or the threat of an attack. A defense that does not allow you to immediately attack is not a defense. And here they tell us how easy it is to win chess by making five moves in a row with one player.

The strength of this method is not so much in "receiving" the attack and then employing your own, as many defensive tactics would, but to meet the attack with an attack. You defend by attacking, which is faster than defending and then attacking.

@@MagusKali You can not defend yourself in this way, the tip of the weapon must necessarily be directed towards the enemy's eyes. The blow is repelled, and inertia reveals the attacker, who should immediately receive a blow. If you allow yourself to be beaten several times, then sooner or later you will be beaten

@@phd.9400 even in boxing there is such a thing as countering a punch, which foregoes "defense" by positioning yourself where the incoming attack won't hurt you. Have you ever tried this type of training? Just curious.

@@MagusKali In boxing, you don't kill with one blow, but in fencing, one blow is enough.

@@phd.9400 true, boxing doesn't go for a kill but that knock out is effectively ending the fight too. Is it safe to say that fencing doesn't use slashes but stabs instead? I'm not well versed in fencing so I'm genuinely interested.

Oh come on, when someone within range tries to cut you down with a sword you don't try to spare his life and just injure him. That's just wrong on all levels.
