One of the few African American high level grapplers out there..needs to be more.
@mdidris44144 жыл бұрын
As a black guy I can say that the reason why many of us don't get into it is because we just don't like the intimacy of grappling. I didn't like it when I first started but eventually got used to it. Also black guys are generally not very flexible, which is an advantage for guard retention and being able to fight off submissions.
@lujitsu12514 жыл бұрын
Adam Townsend why does there need to be more? Are you virtue signaling or are you a racist?

Why? Who cares what blacks, or whites "embrace"? I hate the idea that everything has to be along racial boundaries. How about we hope the USA embraces it, or Ireland, or fill in the country. What you are embarking on, is racism.

Dan Idris what the hell does someone’s color have to do with this? I know the majority of people I know that don’t go to jiu or wrestling is because of this but why the “us” “them” here? Why does every thing have to be along racial lines?

Garry was dominated in this fight period. If he was truly better than DJ, he could have leglokced him no matter how. Stop making excuses saying oh submission only oh he just trying to pass guards. WTF? Jiu jitsu is first and foremost about getting better positions every fk single time. Garry could't do shit against DJ lying on the bottom all day. Garry is good but DJ is better than him.

absolutely zero submission attempts from Jackson....Gary is way better than that guy. DJ could have won me over as a fan If he did some jiu jitsu in there
@OdinsHallsBrazilianJiuJitsu8 жыл бұрын
Michael Pecero what are you saying? DJ takes him down at will and controls him for 10 minutes. And how many times has he beaten him? Why does better at jiu jitsu have to mean tapping? What about the the jiu jitsu that says someone can take a guy down, pass, and hammer fist him to death?
@MichaelPecero8 жыл бұрын
You talking MMA, street fight, or Jiu jitsu match? In jiu jitsu, which what we are watching is, the goal is to tap the opponent. There are many different types of submissions and variations. Just like in boxing there are many different types of punches and counter variations. The problem is entering into a match/fight and not attempt to actually defeat your opponent. Let me go into a boxing match and not throw any punches. It sounds totally stupid. Now I do understand that rules are rules and DJ did win the match on points. That only raises the point how flawed and possibly outdated the rule system has become. No boxer can win a fight without throwing a single punch. It don't matter if he never got touched. The fighter who is attempting to defeat his opponent is the winner. It's not hard to understand. Now if this was on the street and DJ did in fact hammerfist him to death while Gary was reaching for the feet the entire time I'd be saying Gary's a fucking idiot.
@yasinpatel123457 жыл бұрын
he was keeping good pressure and decent positions. Not good enough fully nullify Gary's defenses, but he was doing 'jiu jitsu'. Passing guard and keeping Garry on the defensive for most the match is not a bad thing.
@John2corner6 жыл бұрын
Michael Pecero do you think tapping Garry is easy to do? Dj was doing great and doing what he can do best to beat a very high lvl guy who is very hard to sub.

I don´t understand all the hate towards DJ. I´m brazilian and I´ve been doing BJJ on and off since 1994 (just recently got my black belt), but I don't compete since I was a purple belt. I see this more as a classic "guardeiro x passador" match of styles. Great fight. I guess people don´t realize how difficult it is to fight someone like DJ. Of course, Tonon is a genius, but you can´t always win. Like boxing, jiu-jitsu has different styles and matches make fights. Cheers! :-)

People hate DJ because he's on team Lloyd Irving, a coach who shielded rapists on his team. Also I believe DJ has a statutory rape charge in Iowa. Has nothing to do with his grappling.

DJ couldn’t pass Gary’s guard or even attempt a submission. His only option was to try to bulldog his way into something that was just not happening.
@vincespell6 жыл бұрын
Well, that's doesn't say much for Tonen. If DJ couldn't pass his guard or didn't try any submission, then what was Gary's problem? how come Gary couldn't get past a staller? In fact DJ beats most of the people he fights by stopping them from mounting any offense. DJ stops you from doing anything.
@TheTaoofEternalWar3 жыл бұрын
So when did DJ score a point? He never even attempted a submission. Garry at least managed to throw up a few things even though his opponent's only objective was to lay on top of him.

Everyone complaining in the comments must not realize if punches were involved DJ would be landing punches from a lot of those positions and win in a real fight or mma fight. So Thats really what matters: position before submission. Stop whining.

If there wasn't much BJJ going on there, why couldn't Garry do anything? Controlling the opponent is part of BJJ. If you can't do anything about it, you got outgrappled, plain and simple.
@TheSigmaWolves7 жыл бұрын
BestWayKilla ooooo! you faced him 😮. people don't wanna see tonon get handled
@BestWayKilla7 жыл бұрын
It's happened. He's a very good grappler, one of the best on the sub-only circuit, but up against the cream of the crop, he's really punching up, so to speak. Lucas Lepri really soundly handled him at ADCC, and that's what I would consider to be a good indicator of the divide between Tonon and the truly elite.
@Madmac797 жыл бұрын
I don't see much Bjj in submission only ruleset either to be honest. People conceding bad positions, buttscooting, caring for stand up even less than in Ibjjf.. I mean at this point I'd rather see a point system which simulate and rewards a positional hierarchy, for how flawed it could be. If you want to see true Bjj look at Bjj fighters in MMA like Maia.
