Just my opinion but those epoxied magnets are ticking time bombs. Approximately 30% failure rate with some causing catastrophic engine failure. It is costly but since you already had it out I would've swapped it. Peace of mind and potentially saving your engine is priceless in my opinion. Great video though and great tutorial.

my 08 fz1 at 55k miles needed some work new timeing chain,guides,valves shimed,plugs,then the shop told me ,they found a grinding sound n vibration wen turned engine by hand!it was the stator bushings! worn out caused scrapeing,then after replaceing the bushings it was not scrapeing or vibeing any more, could be the start of stator disintergrating! if i did not take bike to shop could have ended bad!now shes got 73k n still runing strong! love the vids keep it up!

There are two bullet shaped guides located between the cover and the engine ( you can see them on 6:30 ). Be carefull when you remove the cover because they come out loose and i had one fallen into the engine. I had to tear down half the bike so i can get to the oil pan and retreive it.The funny thing is that they are not magnetic so you cannot pull them from the top. Its a pain in the ass believe me and you need another 2 new gaskets to reinstall the pan.

The updated rotors are not cheap, but the old style can fail suddenly and without warning, and when it does, it releases shapnel into the engine. Since it appears I am stuck with my '06 until I die (not willing to sell a great bike for pizza and beer money), I bit the bullet and got the updated rotor. Thanks for the video! My '06 only has 27K miles on it and has been flawless. I wager it will be with me until the end...

Are there any symptoms the bike will experienced if it was failing and coming apart? I just bought a 2014 fz1 with only 6k miles. I’ve only had it for couple days and haven’t ridden it much yet but during a cold start it would take at least 2 tries but once warmed up it has no problem starting. Previous owner said it wasn’t ridden much and sat for awhile so I’m not sure if that has to do with it.

If your flywheel looks like that with the magnets exposed, make sure you buy the upgraded version to replace it, so it dont blow your engine up when the glue for the magnets come loose. Unless your selling it soon 🤷♂️ im about to install the upgraded version on my r1 🙈

Ok, swapped my rotor yesterday. A couple of things. First of all your video was very helpful. Thanks! But you are missing the washer and spacer (which has an o-ring inside of it) that sits on the axle after the starter-clutch. I.e in between the starter-cluch and the inner bearing. It can't be seen on your video that you put them onto the rotor-axle but I hope that you actually did put them on but just didn't show it. ;)

i had to get a used engine from using regular car oil for awhile; and a new starter clutch generator, now if u ever put a new engine in, know that there's 2 little spacers in the inside of the frame and u cant see Them ! \ and if u change the thermostat you want to start it and let it idle a long, long time causing the antifreeze to bond to the hoses , so the anti freeze don't just shot out ever time u drive it !

The bearings aren't the issue. The issue lies with the rotor. The epoxy used to glue the magnets deteriorates and then the magnets falls off, hopefully only destroying your stator and rotor. If you are unlucky it grenades your motor. The new rotors are upgraded where the magnets are encased in metal and cant fall off. Well worth the upgrade since when they go bad, it just goes without any warnings.

Great video, thanks! I'm going to do this on my FZ1-N 2008. Want to replace the original rotor with the new version just to be safe. One thing though; on the picture from the service manual you showed there is a O-ring displayed. Couldn't see it anywhere in your video though? Is it inside the spacer or where is it?

Hello. Great informative video. Do you by chance know, if the bolt you are unscrewing at 3:09 has an o-ring in there? I ask this, because my fz1 is dripping oil, precisely bellow that bolt. Thanks for any input.
@buelle1096 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am pretty sure there was an o-ring there.
@tepesousa58956 жыл бұрын
Yup, I can confirm that. In my case, the O-ring was good, problem was that the Bolt was cracked because of a bike side fall. Anyway, problem solved. Thank you very much for your time.

Check the voltage at your battery, if it is anything less than 13v @ idle there is an issue with your charging system (which may be the stator, or rotor magnets or the R/R)
