I'm currently doing this program. Well, rather, I started with Stage 0 (Prep) and did it for 6 weeks instead of 3 weeks and I saw great results, increasing weight easily with each week - was a total weakling and started feeling noticeably strong within 3-4 weeks. Then the gyms closed again (Ontario) and I have been away from the gym for a month. I'm planning to just do Stage 3 when gyms open again, since I do have the time to go to the gym 6 days a week. Your critique of the plan is very on point - Buff Dudes are awesome and they inspired me to go to the gym for the first time in my 36 years but yeah, they didn't really provide any guidance on weight and 'how much should I lift and how should I increase the load' and I learned a lot of it by trial and error (and later discovering content from other guys like Jeff Nipard, Alan Thrall and others). I got the PDF but I also like that you can watch this entire program with a video playlist on their channel since they made it available for free. Great channel and content btw.

Thanks for the video. Please I always struggle with analysis paralysis when there is a lot of options, that is also true when choosing the right fitness program. What program would I recommend for muscle building that works long term from early intermediate to advance and that works for years to come, without the need to switch to another program to progress further?

Very cool! I would love to see you follow this with a discussion of endurance and power as general topics. I wonder what the benefits of training these adaptions are for the general population. Are these fitness components even worth training outside of sports or preference? Do programs that are more focused on strength and/or hypertrophy train these adaptations without specifying or do so indirectly? How much power and endurance does the general person need (if these can even be quantified)? If I wanted to train these power and/or endurance, what kind of training considerations should I take into account that differ from training strength or hypertrophy?

Good points! I would add to it if you need to train qualities that are at different ends of the continuum in one phase or whether you might want think of splitting them up.

I would really like to know what the evidence base is for saying that power movements are too dangerous to do without a live coach (vs KZbin or a book), that they are extremely taxing on the CNS, or that 6+ reps of a power movement is dangerous and WILL hurt you (you may lose the power training benefit, but I think that’s probably it). I am not aware of any such evidence base and, if there isn’t one, presenting this in the way you did is a foolish and limiting nocebo.

It basically comes down to stimulus to fatigue ratio. The Stimulus is very high but the fatigue is also very high for power exercises, especially in beginners. Also because of the high velocity the form is even more important, because of the lack of control. This will lead to your body automaticly trying to chose the path of least resistance which is not always the path of least fatigue or least joint stress.

@@felixwolatz5938 completely true, in addition to that, any skill that requires high technical proficiency is most often practiced with low repetitions, not only in the gym. Olympic gymnast also do only a few reps on their high skill practices. Just a random example ;-)

Really good points! And thanks for the honest review. I align with your points that there needs to be some form of intensity quantification in the training program. The hard truth is, without any intensity guideline the training is actually quite pointless. Thanks for putting it out!
