IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE. Your aircraft. Your costs. Your responsibility. Your coordination. Your decision on how this aircraft gets flying. The last time I checked I don't believe you need permission on where you acquire parts or for what amount of money. The very fact you care enough to purchase and make this aircraft flyable is a testament to your love of aviation past and present. Kudos to your dad for his amazing wealth of knowledge and generosity. Along with your brother and uncle for their mechanical aptitude. I have never seen a group of people that love what they do more. Congrats thus far on all your hard work and effort in keeping a piece of our valuable history alive.

Joes RCAF C-47 is a literal time warp, this unique machine deserves to be kept in this original historic state, just think of the navigators who learned their trade on this rare machine, the patina is precious and a wise thing that Joe had the insulation removed as this was a corrosion bag inside that fuselage. You can see that Stella is really enjoying the vintage aircraft experience at Red Deer, clambering over that wing and looking around that airplane,Ronnie has done a great job in getting those engine parts in place with all that new plumbing ready to install on DTD,all in all it has been one successful weekend and a first tick off the box towards getting the machine airworthy. Mikey your dad loves you and wants this project to be successful too,his kindness in allowing you to use parts shows the unique nature of this whole project, this is one very exciting journey for many people learning so much along the way about the way aircraft preservation works, for those who do not still understand about parts swopping on vintage aircraft this is the norm especially as you just cannot get bits off the shelf like a modern aircraft, you just keep these old aircraft airworthy by robbing Peter to pay Paul until one day you just run out of bits ! I was thinking of the weight of all that military interior on C-FROD and why it was removed for commercial operations. Have a safe return journey Mikey.

I want to thank Joe for the tour of the C-47 and mentioning "Lost Over Burma." I had never heard of that film so searched for National Film Board of Canada Lost Over Burma. The film is 46:41 in length and worth viewing every second. Gave me a whole new perspective of how those young lads put their future on the line every time they stepped aboard their plane, off on another perilous mission. A new perspective and a great deal more respect; so that our generation can enjoy the lifestyle they fought for and made possible for us.

These old planes each have a soul, you can feel it when when you lay your hand on them. They are living breathing beings that are in a deep slumber at the moment. If only they could speak words, the stories the could tell would keep me on the edge of my seat for days. It will be nice to hear DTD when she gets her voice back. Wish I could be there to hear her in person but life has a way of getting in the way. This is going to be one very memorable episode Mikey. All those Electra's in one shot was such a cool thing to see. ROD is now one very unique DC-3/C47 in being the only one still in its original condition. Those Night Fright boys will be going green with envy when they catch up with this episode. And as for "borrowing" parts from other planes for this project, I totally get and understand why you're doing it. ROD and PNR are safe and sound in Red Deer, but DTD is not in such a lucky situation. It needs saving, and you have set about doing just that in the most practical and economic manner. Its a task you should be applauded for and not criticised. Listening to Joe give his tour of ROD was facanating, his recall of just 'what and when' in this planes history is pure solid gold listening. Top marks to Ronny too for finishing off the engine, you are truly blessed Mikey with having such a helpful and knowledgeable family. I'm now looking forward to a Car Savers episode, I just kinda know it's going to be equally as good as today's episode. Regards, David Jones, Coventry, UK.

Mikey's explaination on lending parts makes total sense, it's just how it's done sometimes. As long as they keep track of everything, which they have to anyway. I wish I'd known you guys were in Red Deer! I went to a private boarding academy (and college) in Lacombe 81-86 (hs grad '84). I was just up there last summer (June) for our class reunion. I definitely would have sought you out for a visit if I'd known! I LOVE the old DC-3/C-47. Probably my favorite plane (maybe tied with the F4U Corsair...) As a kid in the '60s I grew up in Northern India (parents were missionaries). The first plane I ever flew in was a DC-3. We didn't fly often but when we did it was always DC-3's. They were used a lot hauling tea crates from the tea estates up there. My dad would always take me up to visit the pilots in the cockpit. The typical scenario was a plane full of tea crates. If passengers showed up they'd toss out a few crates and bolt in the needed seats. If the seats weren't needed they'd toss out the extra seats and load in a few more tea crates. If turbulence was bad you'd see the tea crates across from you floating off the floor a bit as the plane dropped... A very nostalgic plane for me. If I ever win a large PowerBall or MegaMillions (ya, I live down in Spokane, Washington now) I plan to own my own DC-3 (lol)... and I won't forget what you guys are doing up there! 👍🏼$$ Speaking of Spokane, we have a new air museum here at Felts Field and have a flying DC-3 as part of it... Next time I'm up that way I'll seek you out...
