In this video we check out the beautiful Buffet Divine Bb Clarinet with Rose Gold keys. This Clarinet is available with worldwide shipping via www.dawkes.co.uk/buffet-divin...
The Buffet Divine clarinet is at the pinnacle of modern clarinet design, this model features Rose Gold (copper and gold mix) Plated keywork and is one of just a handful produced to this specification every year.
Utilising the same tone hole placement as the popular Buffet Tosca the new Divine is really more from the RC family of poly-cylindrical bore design. Various modifications in the bore have been made to enable a totally smooth transition between registers and an even scale across the whole range.
There are some exterior technical improvements as well including tone hole slots made from the Buffet Greenline material so as to avoid cracking or air leaks. You will also spot the standard metal rings on the joints have been replaced, these are now produced with a carbon wire which also helps the clarinet lose 60g in weight which can be felt in the flexibility of tone.
Interestingly Buffet have also used synthetic cork on the tenon joints, these should require no lubrication and should be less prone to needing replacing.
The Divine clarinet comes with 2 barrels, 66mm and 65mm so you have room to breathe in challenging tuning situations, the padding is a mix of Gore-Tex and cork which disable the usual stuffy notes and ensure a clean sound. It also benefits from the low F correction key, as on the Tosca.
Upon testing we have found the Divine clarinets to be luxurious and rich in tone. There is a certain authority to the sound and is akin to driving around in a Rolls Royce, refined power. The lead designer Paul Meyer has always produced instruments that feel great under the fingers and this Divine is no different, the references to the old Buffet Elite model are also evident and the application of the RC style bore really make this instrument stand out. Can it be worth the price?
