You seem surprised that Buffy would want to be a cheerleader at the beginning of this episode, but for those of us who were familiar with the original movie, Buffy was a cheerleader. At her old school, Hemery High, she was a cheerleader before she found out she was the slayer. So it’s sort of Buffy, trying to grasp at what little bit she can have of her “pre-slayer” life. In the bigger picture, it’s Buffy rebelling against change and growing up.

Excited that Chance is reacting to Buffy and that a lot of new Buffyverse fans are joining the community but let’s be careful NOT TO SPOIL anything for him & any other first time watchers that might be following along. Looking forward to seeing his reaction to so many things coming up but let’s try to be mindful so that he’s able to go in as blind as possible 😊

Well.. it's actually in the circulation code of supernatural shows of the late 90's : "No matter how much time you have to pull off/turn/brake, you have to continue in straight line and at full speed at least up to the moment the hero jumped out to save the day, after that, you legally can either stop and ask of everyone's ok or go for a hit & run".

In the movie version of Buffy, which was out before the tv show. Buffy was originally a cheerleader then found out she was a vampire slayer. A lot of people didn't like the movie. It certainly is nothing like the tv show and a different actress played Buffy, but I enjoyed the movie.

Part of the inside joke about Cordelia asking if the other girl thinks that she is a Laker girl is that before Buffy Charisma was a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers.
@artoniinisto902218 күн бұрын
Charisma Carpenter, a.k.a. Cordelia, was herself a cheerleader with the San Diego Chargers in 1991 going to the Lakers games with her group. She moved to L.A. in 1992. The witch did such powerful tricks that she could have influenced the van driver also, I think. Before, on earlier TV versions, I never saw that student on the backseat during the lesson. There was that reference to 'Mommie Dearest' which was there bc of the famous book 'Mommie Dearest' by actress Joan Crawford's daughter shedding light on her abusive mother-relationship history.

@blacktronlego12 күн бұрын
Charisma Carpenter was a professional Cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers before she turned to acting. Coredelia is like a'witch' but starts with 'b' instead of a 'w'. Amy was back in her own body and the spell backfired on her mom, so it's definitely the mom trapped in her own statue.

Talking about Buffy having an over season arc like Supernatural is a bit like putting the cart before the horse. Supernatural started in 2005 while Buffy started in 1997 and ended in 2003.

Regarding cheerleading, Buffy was I think a cheerleader in her old high school in LA. And cheerleaders have to be pretty athletic, it is great physical conditioning! Perfect for keeping a Slayer in shape... Charisma Carpenter note: "In 1991 she was picked to be a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers football team. The next year she moved to Los Angeles to break into the entertainment business." Cordelia isn't a witch, but she is a kind of a b.tch... 😂

Not the best twist, but one of my favorites. I can't remember anyone else figuring it out more quickly, but the fact that it can be a little easier than most twist trying to hide until the reveal is why I like this one. It wasn't trying to hide over giving the importance of the mother/daughter theme between the four characters overall. I don't think think Joyce was shaky on the dismount so much as she failed the dismount. When a daughter has a valid point about not being interested in her mom's old hobbies and the mom throws past issues in her face to the point where the daughter walks away with her head down... it was a failed - land on her face - dismount. It would have been cool to have "Here's Johnny," reference.

Man you gotta watch the movie ASAP. I think most viewers don’t really understand her and who she was and get a wrong take on it unless they see the movie first. Her character already went through a lot before the show begins. She was a total it girl, queen bee, head cheerleader and not a pseudo Willow type at all. It also makes one take what happens in last episode of S1 seriously and realize it can happen even if actress is still around.

This is the episode that they previewed to TV reviewers, instead of the actual first episode, because it’s not an hour and a half long, and to show that the show wasn’t just about fighting vampires.

Once again I make my comment about how ppl love to jump on a “safe” bandwagon, this time it’s criticizing season one for various reasons. It’s a story..a story that will become more complicated..this is only the beginning..enjoy it..! It’s a nice ride, just hold off on all the judgment. Just because some think it makes them seem more smart or discriminating to parrot other people’s unjustified critique..it really doesn’t. I’ve watched this series myself many many times, now many times with different reactors..it’s wonderful to reexperience the very first season every..single..time!. There’s no BUT. “Well, Season one bla bla bla...BUT….” Season one is totally BUT-less, in Buffy-speak!

The bit I remember from this episode is where Buffy and Joyce are talking in the kitchen and Buffy refers to Joyce having 'Farah Hair' was a reference to Farah Fawcett Majors who was in the original Charlie's Angels, and was one of the most famous women of the 70's, every woman that time wanted the 'Farah Flick'. Witch was one of the better episodes of Series 1. Although S1 was a bit rough due to low budget and show finding its feet, it lays the groundwork for the upcoming episodes. Once this show reaches mid S2 it really picks up in every way, and produces some of the best TV drama ever written. In this episode the metaphor here is the 'pushy parent' who forces their child to things and is annoyed with them when they don't excel. The ultimate pushy parent, Amy's mum criticising her child and forcing her to do things she may not be able to do, then taking over her body. A decent little episode for early on in the show with a chilling ending with Amy's mum encased in the cheerleader statuette trophy.
