One of the films was Pump Up the Volume which has no prom. One of my best friends at the time was an extra at the prom. She's in a pink dress and is in nearly every single shot. If you watvh her. All continuity goes out the window. She's right in front of the stage during Jonathan's speech. Another of our friends was on set that day to visit her (then) husband and he managed to keep her from seeing our friend. So that friend lost it when she watched the episode and saw her on TV. They announced the spin off immediately after the S2 finale. So everyone who stuck aroubd fir the news past the end credits heard thst Angel, who Buffy just "killed" was getting his own show. It aired immediately after Buffy during S4&5. I worked there.

Lots of reactors use "The Buffy/Angel watch guide" on the slayalive forums which tries to keep the cross-show stuff in order while at the same time keeping really close storylines together in the watch order. Or you could just go with airing order. I'm not even sure if you are going to do Angel (a really great show, I mean it's Joss, but a totally different vibe).

Xander paid for the rest of the dress, while knowing she would not be with him at the prom, and being poor himself. He might not be her boyfriend anymore, but he cares.

Some very funny comedy moments in this episode especially when Xander says to Anya when the says she hasn't got a date for Prom and he says ' it must be your sales pitch ' Xander shows he still cares for Cordelia by paying for her dress. The interaction with Joyce and Angel is very interesting and Angel knows deep down she's right. Overall the story of the episode is pretty average, only saved by Buffy's brilliant award at The Prom at the end. The Oscar's type feel to the presentation even though schmaltzy, is so well done. SMG said this was her favourite scene from the whole show. The last two episodes season finale you will love them, parts 1 and 2 of finale are brilliant!

Buffy's being awarded is one of my favorite scenes from the show. Giles' "blueberry scone" comment still tickles me. I recommend watching Angel. It's simply a good show. The airing & the slayalive order are the ones that seem to work the best for most reactors. They're just smoother than the others. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

@@wacky_uncle Slayalive has a website & is also on Facebook. It's set up for reactors & thus is spoiler free. For the airing order I'd go with Wikipedia (a few episode titles are a little spoilery, but other than that it's fine). Search for "Angel list of episodes" & then do the same for Buffy. 1 for 1 doesn't always work. There are a few quirks. Buffy switched networks for the last two seasons, so I think season 4 it's Buffy 1st then Angel. Then at some point it's Angel 1st, but I'm not sure that it stays that way. I think the WB started one of it's seasons a week earlier than UPN at one point. Nothing too complicated, just enough to muck things up. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Buffy prending to be a "swoony little schoolgirl," while upset at the concept of it, only proves she is one. She was fifteen years old when Angel stalks her, sixteen when she started dating him and dumped him for good reason only to get back together with him before never solving any of the problems she dumped him over, and is surprised Angel is dumping her now that he sees the relationships problems and not as in denial as she is. At the age Buffy is (seventeen), she doesn't understand the real concept of love, but assumes she is, like many other teenagers. Angel, (with Joyce's help [and oddly The Mayor, as well] and when finding the Buffy&AngelForever doodle) realized them separating is a necessaty. Underneath Buffy knows this and says so to Willow, but her actions for two and a half years shows that despite her acknowledgement of love, it isn't anything more than a teenager who doesn't truly understand it, and is forcing denial upon herself. She still is only a "swoony little schoolgirl" when it comes to romance, and never would have permanantly dumped Angel without trying to get back together with him; as seen from _Lovers Walk_ to _Amends_ (or at latest, the _Enemies_ episode). All characters tryng to spare Buffy's feelings only helped create the situation in the sewers. Joyce and The Mayor were the two who came closest to doing what was right, but The Mayor was all about throwing it in their faces (even though he was saying what all Buffy's friends should have been doing), and Joyce should have said something many times and sooner. To be fair, Angel was intending to wait on dumping Buffy, but she pushed for it to happen right then and therwe in the sewer. I don't just roll my eyes at Tucker being turned down for The Prom. I see it as his breaking point of many years of teasing and student on student (and perhaps even teacher on student) abuse. Asking a popular girl out when you live in a run down home would just be his last straw. In high school where you live is just as much a key factor for bullying as being a geek or nerd and he has that working against him, also. Him getting rejected probably was just the breaking point to years of bullying coming at him. It definitely doesn't gives him the excuse of sending Hell Hounds to the Prom, but it gives more insight into Tucker's character through very little visuals and dialogue. In real life he'd be someone like Eric Harris (Columbine shooter). "Are we all catching up now" is one of my favorite Cordelia lines. It shows Cordelia isn't the dumb popular girl the group still makes her out to be. As a Stephen King fan, I remember thinking Buffy's award was going to be a horrible prank the school at large does to her. The way it was filmed was reminiscent of _Carrie._

Yeah, the hell hounds were not a big deal for Buffy...but had they not known in advance, if all four hell hounds had attacked while the dance was already in progress, they could have done a lot of damage before Buffy defeated them.

Hey thanks! That's the plan....I appreciate that you enjoy it....When I first started I think I used to include wayyy too much, partly because as a viewer I used to not like when reactors clipped out huge sections. Anyway, it's always a struggle to decide what a good happy medium is, so I love hearing that!

Yeah, Angel spinoff starts in parallel with season 4 of Buffy. There are multiple guides, in which order they should be watched; there is one specifically designed for reactors. I think you can google it. That said, you're not required to follow that guide, or any one else, or even watch both shows. If you choose to watch Buffy, but ignore Angel, you won't miss much. Sometimes you might understand the events better, but it's also pretty easy to just assume “oh, it must've happened in the other show”, and move on.

The background philosophical trends of the two shows can be intertwined occasionally. I suspect there will be a few spoiler comments if Wacky Uncle finishes Buffy before starting Angel.

From Quora, in a reply to a question regarding the spinoff, there's this: "Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and co-creator of Angel has said that he realized during the third season of Buffy that Buffy and Angel’s story could not continue in its current form without becoming repetitive. He also realized during the episode “Amends” that David Boreanaz had the talent and screen presence to carry a TV series of his own."

A very weird episode. The main story (hell-hounds) is rather meh. The side stories are the actual meat of the episode. My personal favorite is the introduction of Anya as the ultimate tsundere. I think that's the term. I'm not completely up on manga lingo.

Yes, it was well known at the time that David Boreanaz was being given his own spinoff that fall. As far as the Mayor, he absolutely was human. He said he sold his soul to a demon at some point. In exchange, he founded Sunnydale on the Hellmouth for demons and vampires. He also needed to pay periodic tributes to at least one demon.

After a couple viewings, I really don't think Angel goes evil (lifting the gypsy curse) with good sex. Darla ( & sometimes Dru) gave him that for a century. It's the contentment and peacefulness from being accepted & appreciated that breaks the curse - he's no longer brooding & guilty about the deeds of Angelus. JMHO- but if Angel were to spend time at a monastery, and the monks learned his full story, prayed for him & forgave him.... that might restore the peace to his soul which would break the curse & release Liam's soul from Angelus' body. That is an interesting script idea. 😂 Having Jonathan present the Protector Award was a special moment❤ Unless Uncle has a reason for wrapping up his BtVS journey next year, he should really start Angel 1.1 with Buffy 4.1. It's a better journey into the Whedon-verse. 🎬 📺
