Smoke is a antibacterial. If water and/or soap are in short supply you can utilize campfire smoke to take a “Smoke Bath” and you can kill the bacteria in your clothes by waving them through the smoke as well. It won’t clean off dirt or stains obviously but it will eliminate body order and other bad smells. I also always hang my washed clothes and socks near the fire so they’re washed in the smoke as they dry by the fire. Just don’t put them too close. LOL!!! I hope this helps. Thanks for sharing.

I like that y’all are willing to talk about this stuff. Another subject that would be good to talk about is waste borne disease in regards to a lengthy grid down situation. Too many folk are too used to flushing and forgetting with no regard on how to deal with human waste. It’s more than just digging a hole in the ground y’all.

Dental hygiene, dry brushing without toothpaste removes something like 80% of plaque, (studies done by American Dental Association in the '80s) then finish with 'small' amount of toohpaste, use dental-floss every 3 days or so. A full body wash can be carried out using 2 pints of water split betwen two containers, (one wash, one to rinse) face-cloth and liquid soap. make sure food prep gear is clean also any other utensils. No water, use grass or leaves or sand to clean. After taking a dump ALWAYS ensure hands are clean! Rubbing fine wood ash through hair will de-grease and get rid of lice.

There are questions in the comments about disposing of wipes/waste. I was homeless in a tent in San Antonio, TX. My waste was in plastic bags tied shut. I took trash out of my "camp" every day and put in public trash cans or dumpsters. No odor as the trash and waste were in tied closed bags or baggies. People toss unwrapped baby diapers in public trash cans and the odor is foul. I ate, stayed clean and so on. I used non-scented baby wipes when it was too cold to take a bucket bath.

You can get shampoo in those small sheets too. I would suggest nail clippers too. I have found those paper towels tablets handy too , just add a little water, and wipe the gunk and grime way from your neck , and underarms.

My husband uses Gold Bond medicated body spray for those creases between the thighs...if you dont like to carry an aerosol can..then Gold Bond medicated powder is amazing too...as a truck driver there have been many times where he was stuck at a shipper or receiver...or on the side of the road because of bad weather...and that medicated body spray, giant baby wipes that he slathered in hand sanitizer saved him...clean socks and underwear..another HUGE one...even if you can't change your outer clothes...change those at the very least...great video :)

Our DI in Boot Camp drilled the Creed of The Marine Corps into us. Especially the line "I must keep my rifle clean even as I keep my body clean." And would throw in over top of our reciting it, " In both cases don't miss the nooks and crannies!"

I’ve found from many different sites that the average person goes through 100 rolls of toilet paper per year. So that’s a lot of toilet paper to store. Especially if you have a large family. I have also considered using cloth rags as toilet paper and then washing super well with hot water and possibly bleach if you have it on hand. It’s reusable and sustainable.

The man made chamois after wetting & wringing them out make great towels and coolers in heat. They aren’t tactical but work and Dollar Tree has them. Also in a hot moist area like the beach using anti-perspirant (unscented) work great in the crease at your thigh/body attachment point. If you don’t have any powder it’s a big help

I recommend Ragg wool socks from LL Bean. the first few pairs that I bought lasted me for years. As for stocking TP, I know that hat-wearers (incl. cowboy-hat wearers) will sometimes tuck pieces of TP inside of the hatband to improve fit in some loose places. And on top of that, they have extra TP for emergencies!

How do you dispose of your soiled Baby/Wet Wipes, as they are usually not very biodegradable? Is it acceptable to bury them in a BOB situation, versus normal bushcraft type outings?.
@isatq2133 Жыл бұрын
Bury it! Your on the move and probably in a survival situation and fire to burn it would stink, smoke, and give away your location. God forbid it. You never know these days! Please top off your preps and top off the pew pews! Good luck!

For women: menstrual cup. Had to say it you're going to need one. Guys, pack one for the wife. She may say she will never use it, but feminine hygiene is going to become an issue within 3 weeks of a bugout situation. Like it or not. Trust me.

What's the next best thing to use instead of wool? I have a friend that's allergic to wool.
@etnrutledge84615 жыл бұрын
fdlseeker Most synthetics are ok. For warmth polyester fleece works great.
@veteratorvulpes11165 жыл бұрын
It depends on how severe the allergy is I would expect, but I am mildly allergic to wool and find that the SmartWool brand socks don't agitate my feet. A big part of that might be that they are very soft for wool socks and are less likely to cause abrasion openings which most certainly make allergic reactions stronger. to be entirely Fair, they are not as warm as some other wool socks I've worn but they handle moisture just as well and stack with another pair of socks better due to that softness.

Great subject that most don't put much thought into. In a true SHTF you are much more likely to fall victim to hygiene issues than you are to a gun shot. Also you need a plan on how to handle your wast. That shit will build up very very fast on you.

@@gunmonkey3011 my cast iron regime is a "heat to clean" one. Meaning, i don't do sauces in my cast iron, and to clean i scrape well, then super heat the pan. When using next time around, just add a drop of oil (i prefer dr. Bronners coconut oil) and super heat the pan, scrape, and you are ready to go :) A 170-180° pan is foodsafe...
