Now thats bad ass! I would have one fully loaded, and I want the cab to join the box so you dont have to walk around, especially with kids. Also needs a winch on the front, some flood lights to provide 360° lighting outside the truck, some LED lights up front. The list keeps going! These trucks are really fun to drive. The downside, most garages dont know these vehicles so finding someone to fix it could be challenge or just DIY.

Todd Klekotka This one is probably the owners personal vehicle that doubles as a show vehicle. I agree a winch and lights on all sides is a must for any offered vehicle. I'd have to watch a lot of youtube videos on how to work on these truck LOL.

Well, as long as you have some muscle, and a good set of tools, you would be fine. To work on these trucks is fairly easy, a 5 year could figure it out. Its the heavy, 150ft-lbs of torque on most bolts that gets most people. There is a good website/forum all about these trucks called Steel Soldiers. All kinds of info and vehicle for sale. there are a few things missdescribed. 1. this is a M900 series 5ton truck not the M35 2.5ton series. 2. the Cat engine is NOT multifuel it will only run on diesel. they ended the multifuel engines in the 80s with the redesign on the M35A3 Designation. the M35A2 had the Multifuel (white, continental, or hercules LDT 465) and a 5spd manual. 3. the 5ton was redesigned alongside the M35 sharing the engine and transmission. just thought id point this out.

1:M939 Series is the appropriate Term. 2:5 Ton Trucks,except for the Stewart & Stevenson MTV's,never had a Caterpillar Engine. 3:The Multi-Fuel ended in 1988. 4:There was a LT/LDT/LDS-465 with three different Turbos (A,C,D) depending on Year and Series,for Deuce & A Half and even 5 Ton Trucks. 5:The M35A3 and M109A4 both were made from 1993-1999,with a Caterpillar Engine also (3116). 6:The M39 Series 5 Ton Trucks are the only ones that shared the Multi-Fuel with the M35A2's,other Variants had a R602 Continental Gas Job and even a EDNT-673 Mack Diesel.The other Series later on such as the M809's and M939's were all Cummins,NHC-250 or 6CTA,the M809's all had the 250,and then the M939's coming out had the NHC also until they got the 6CTA in 1987.All trucks except the M939 had Five Speed Manual Transmissions,the M939's all had MT654CR Allison Automatics.The Cabs,Doors,Roofs,Fenders,and Bumpers are Interchangeable on these trucks,except for the M939's yet again,they are measured differently and can't be easily changed out.

@IronicallyVague A M939 Series can do 63-65 MPH all day without issue,espiecally at ease with the Full Air Brakes they have.The M945A1 however,which is a Bridge Truck,with a long Wheelbase has a very set back Gear Ratio that only allows it to do 20-25 MPH,same way with the M348 and M812.In other 5 Ton Trucks,espiecally the Deuce & A Half (2 1/2 Ton),it's recommended that you don't go above at least 55 MPH because of the Air Assisted Hydraulic Brakes.I also should point out that the speed depends on what Variation of 5 Ton Trucks with their Tires.The M923-M944 with the G177/1100×20's can do 64-65 MPH all day,the M923A1-M944A1 with the 48/1400×20's can do 52-55 MPH,and then the M923A2-M944A2 with the 50/1200×20's can do 63-65 MPH.The M923-M944 & M923A1-M945A1 are the Variations with the NHC-250 Cummins,same Engine that the M812-M820 has,and the M923A2-M944A2 has the 12 Valve 6CT Cummins.The 14.0L NHC-250 cannot handle higher than 2,100 RPM,you will have flying Piston Rods and broken Valve Seals.The 12 Valve Cummins,both the 5.9L 6BT & 8.3L 6CT can do 2,500 RPM all day without issue,the Governor Springs that you have access too allow them to do so.They even have Springs for the Industrial Cummins that can be used that allow them to do 3,000-3,600 RPM.

I'd like to see a few modular units that were on casters - a kitchen unit, a storage / entertainment unit and closet that could be secured while in transit and rolled and locked into place when the unit is expanded. A few modular bunk beds would be good as well. The folding floor / roof constraint could be overcome using this method.

I think your right. A sportsmobile 4x4 van costs $90,000 for the base model. Earthroamer 4x4 campers built off a Ford F550 cost $300,000 for the base model. Newer Unimogs cost $100,000.

I've been looking at 5 Ton's. I was more interested in an M928 modded with a M926 regular bed and crane mounted behind the cab. Palatalized cargo set up. My use is camp site build and resupply. After viewing this video, I'm thinking this will still work for palatalized loads, if i use a pallet jack. With a camp site, I never considered this set up but what an awesome addition to a camp set up. Duel purpose sells it for me.

Not ranting or anything but the M939 series of 5 tons (these trucks) never had a multifuel Caterpillar as Caterpillar never made such an engine (i wish they did) but they had mechanical Nch250 (855 Cubic inches, 250 horse) Cummins or an Mechanical 8.3L Cummins which is related to the 5.9l that was found in Dodge Ram trucks hooked up to an Allison MT645 5 speed mechanical auto trans. But i do see where the Caterpillar and multifuel came from as the M35A1 and M35A2 (2.5 ton or Deuce and a Half) had a Continental Multifuel inline six with five speed manual which was removed when they had an extended service program and converted them to the M35A3 with the Caterpillar 3116 inline six diesel with Allison At545 4 speed auto. Hope this helps.

this truck is not multi-fuel, this truck is built from an m939. they do not have multifuel engines in them, they have a Cummins NHC-250 engine in them which was strictly diesel , the m35a1 and the m35a2,s were REO OA-331 high compression engines equipped with a fuel density compensater that made them accept other fuels. all tho on the 5 tons (m939) will accept a little motor oil mixed with diesel. i would never go above 50% oil

+Christopher Vayo Here is the facts, mamm.. The first 900 series trucks did have the naturally aspirated 250 Cummins. In 1990, Harseco took many of these and rebuilt them completely, and installed the cat 3116 turbo. About the same hp but better torque utilization, so they perform better than the 1980's versions. These newer ones have the 900A2 designation. It is not technically multifuel, but I can attest to using half diesel and half jet A with 2 quarts of transmission fluid added for lubrication of injectors. Heating oil and kerosene also.There you go.......

+Kyle Bullard If the SHTF, ANYONE that is not dug in or gone is screaming "Rob Me"................. The important thing is don't be in a city as they will be locked up tighter than a bull's ass. First sign of trouble .... take a drive away from cities. There are millions of miles of back roads where this truck will travel just fine. I know cause I have 3 of the AM Generals. If you are in the way you are under my Super SIngles. Sure, you can buy these for under 10k from good ol Uncle Sam but you WILL BE SORRY because the Gov will gladly sell you dead trucks. I buy and sell these and you are advised to buy from this gentleman and not take chances. He clearly has a creampuff here and 90% of them or more, have issues. A transfer case will cost you $5000 or more, an Allison 654 transmission alone will set you back about $3000-$5000 also. The cat motors are very very good, but if some Army kid busted it you will pay $10,000 to replace it. Just buy from this fellow, and no, I do NOT know him or work for him in any way.
