Great pulling tubes tip! I do that on my JCM 800 so I can get some of that beautiful cracking overdrive at lower vol. Great job camera man! Cheers

hey tone king! great informative video. I got one additional tip that you may not know: try not to handle the tubes with your bare hands! The oils on your fingers will cause the tubes to burn hotter where you touched them0causing quicker tube death!

Okay. Tips. Make sure you let the amp discharge for a full minute at least once you have turned it off. The circuitry in an amp has enough capacitance to hold a charge large enough to hurt you or possibly kill you. Turn it off. Let it discharge and unplug it before you start fiddling.

Hi, i just had a few things to point out.. If you have a THD Hot Plate attenuator, what is the point of pulling the two tubes. Sure you get breakup at lower volumes, but that doesn't matter because you have a power attenuator. You don't need the breakup at lower volumes. When you pull tubes, you can lose some headroom and punch that you would normally get with all four tubes. You should make a video showing this amp, on the same settings with the Hot Plate and four tubes. It'll sound much better

I think it's even better to unplug the amp before doing tube change. Nice Video, sounds great, keep it up!
@wolfman109h13 жыл бұрын
@bluetseel it reduces the "speaker volume" so that you can run your amp at full volume for maximum power and tube saturation, wuthout having your ears bleeding :) It's a good thing if you have cranky neighbours I hope I explained it right.

I run a podhd500 in the fx loop of mine and it makes a great master volume. If you buy new jj e34l tubes this amp sounds a lot better it tames the highs and tightens the low end and gives you more headroom.

I had to pull the tubes outta mine cuz even in a decent size room (church sanctuary) it felt like I was racing a trans am big block V8 on a go kart track. Dropping the watts made it much more manageable for me and I actually thought the tone sounded better. Perhaps one of the tubes I pulled was not good? I dunno, but this is what worked for me.

HI TK I have been going over all your vid's on the Bugera heads and I;m torn between the 1990 and the 1960...My question is ..by jumping the channels on the 1960 is that the same as the MOD you disguss in the Vid where you explan the Randy Rhoades mod and Gain casscaded?

Does the attenuator act as a load to the AMP? if so you need to pay close attention to the impedance of the attenuator.
@AB-80X12 жыл бұрын
You should use the 4 ohm. It's very simple. When you pull tubes, use half the ohm output. So in your case with a 8 ohm cab, run the 4 ohm output. Basically the amp is seeing 8 ohms on the 4 ohm output, contrary to a bridged amp, that sees half. Hope it makes sense. Don't think too much about it, just remember to run half your cab ohm on the output.

Hi!! You run a very nice channel! I got a doubt: How do I pull out the tubes on Hiwatt Hi Gain 100 Head? is it possible? witch tubes should I pull? Will change the output ohms also? thanks a lot!

I would like your opinion I noticed in this video you had a peavy windsor in the background I have this amp and want to trade for either a Bugera 1990 or 1960. If you pull two tubes, how many watts are you left with? Also, the master volume in the back. Doesn't it act like a antenuator already? Can you still conserve your ears and still have all the gain with the master volume?

whats the difference between using an attenuator or a volume pedal in the effects loop? dont they do the same thing
@cast3907 жыл бұрын
Not even close.Think of the attenuator as a volume control for your speaker cab.So you can crank the amp as louid as you want,get all the rich saturation and harmonics from the amp being push hard, then the attenuator lowers the volume of the speaker,while still being about to retain your tone.
@tanthalis7712 жыл бұрын

nah, the 900s got discontinued. as far as i know, they were only made during the 90s. i love mine, and i couldn't imagine playing any other head (except for maybe a mesa triple rec :P) i never use distortion pedals, so an amp's gain is super important to me, and this amp has incredible gain. the very popular JCM 800s were upgraded in the late 80s/early 90s and given more gain. it became the JCM 900. the clean is amazing, and the gain can get very heavy, but also has good crunch. get it dude, hah
