Thank you!! Yes, you don't need a 200k or 300k glider to fly this. Most important is the joy and adventure, it doesn't matter if it's 100 or 200 km more at the end of the day. But of course it is also fun to fly a heavy 18m glider :D

I know nearly nothing about gliders, but it seems you seek cumulonimbus clouds to get an updraft. I was recently flying in a very busy airspace in a DA40 and kept getting pulled up by these same type of clouds, but when you're on an ATC-assigned altitude, a 200 ft. (61 meters) deviation can get you a violation. So my tendency was to pull power and/or push the stick down to maintain assigned altitude - conversely, you glider guys will just pull up in an updraft (but stay below stall speed). Very interesting, thanks.

Wawwwwww, wie schön mein altes Flugzeug wieder zu sehen. Bis 2003 hatte ich eine LS3a ich habe mit dem Flugzeug die schönsten Flüge gemacht. Ganz Deutschland und auch 14 Tage in ganz Süd Italien. Leider hatte ich 2003 In Pritzwalk einen schweren Unfall und kann seit dem nicht mehr Fliegen. Danke für das schöne Video

You took that wasp on quite a trip, I wonder if it survived xD For anyone confused it can be seen flying in the cockpit throughout the video and it's also clearly visible when it's walking on the canopy at 10:54.

On a long flight you hit a lot of bugs which contaminate the leading edge and degrade glide and climb performance. bugwipers are extended along the wings by the airflow (I think) and then reeled back in by hand or electric motors, so they clean the wing of bugs.

That’s an interesting way to do the controls on the left side of the cockpit. I assume the blue handle being spoilers, is blocked when the gear is retracted. It also appears that you can’t extend the gear until the flap is in the landing position. Can you leave flaps in neutral and still extend the gear? Is there a way to open spoilers without messing with the gear and flaps? I have had to open spoilers in a hurry when getting sucked up by the West Coast monster.

The gear is completely independent from both air brakes and flaps. But the flaps and airbrakes sadly aren’t independent from each other on the LS3

Tach Stefan, fliegst du die LS3 eigentlich mit Wasser? Würde ja Sinn machen... Oder ist das Thema mit den Winglets dann von Tisch, was ich mir nicht vorstellen kann weil Uwe die 15m DM sicherlich nicht ohne Wasser geflogen hat. Beste Grüße Lukas

Hi Lukas, ich bin meine LS3 noch nie mit Wasser geflogen. In Clubklasse Wettbewerben ist das nicht erlaubt und ich weiß nicht ob meine Wassersäcke noch dicht sind. Muss ich mal testen und ist bestimmt mit Wasser noch besser bei so gutem Wetter.

That is the canopy jettison in case of emergency bail out.

Auch ich kreise nicht immer richtig herum ein ;) Irgendwann hatten wir aber mal festgestellt, dass auch die Stabilisierung der GoPro das empfingen beeinflusst.

I don´t know exactly, it just worked after landing again. Battery was still ok, so the only reason might be that the slack switch was not working properly. I tried to fly really fast and also made a slip. After some more flights with the LS3 this issue didn't occur again.

Das Vieh hat mich irgendwie gar nicht interessiert, war einfach auf den Flug fokussiert. Und es war keine Wespe, also keine Bedrohung :D
