Hey man, really cool video thx ! I believe the MTH30 was designed in order to run with a 500 RMS speaker. Does it change the efficiency of your subwoofer to run on a half power speaker ? Keep up the good work !
@Mattstir
@Mattstir 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes the MTH-30 was not designed for this speaker, often the PRECISION DEVICES PD.12SB30 is listed as the speaker. 1. It is very hard to get it... seems like they don't produce it anymore. 2. It was 3 times the price of the THE BOX.. The RMS value won't really effect the efficiency of the Subwoofer. THE SPL value of them are nearly the same but i would say YES it is less efficient because the box doesn't fit it perfectly. All in all the "the box Speaker 12-280/8-W"(not the A version) is a pretty good pick, good price and also works good :) Hope i could help somehow.... :D

You can also use the RCF LF12G301 (450W RMS / 900W max) in the MTH30. The designer of this sub (Marc'O) has validated this speaker for it. I got 4 pc of the MTH30 with the RCF speaker (pushed with a t.amp TSA 4-700) It sounds great, loud and very good (a max SPL of 137 db with 4 pc !) You can both use MDF or plywood. The only thing is that MDF would be (very ?) cheaper, but more heavier. But you'll have to respect the wood thinkness (15 mm) At least, for the inside pieces. Or you'll modify the internal volume and the speaker could not have its optimal performance. Just one other thing I noticed in this video : the wood was only glued and not screwed. I don't believe that it keeps up with time because of the vibrations... It must be glued (wood glue D2 recommended) ...AND SCREWED ! Have a good use !
@Weedax3
@Weedax3 6 жыл бұрын
Some people (mainly in Germany) use the TheBox 12-280/8-W (48€ !!!! at www.thomann.de) They look pretty happy. But you'll not have the performance of a RCF LF12G301 ! But that should be enough for an apartment or a small room.

Hi!
@Mattstir
@Mattstir 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, danke!

whats the advantage of this tapered horn Vs regular Bass Reflex ??? In what way the horn sounds better ???
@Mattstir

There are pros and cons for both. Typically you can say that a horn has an higher SPL/w/m but the bass reflex manages to play at lower frequencies. This can be very different from box to box so its better to compare 2 boxes and not 2 types of boxes ;)

Tolles Video!
@Mattstir
@Mattstir 7 жыл бұрын
Hi danke!

I don't know if you measured the speakers parameters and used software to simulate the performance of it in the MTH-30, but picking a box and a random woofer to use is not the best way to go about designing a bass bin. The 12-280 looks like a decent speaker, but that doesn't mean it will perform at it's optimal potential in that box. The whole point of DIY, is to optimize the designs around the speakers.
