There's an area around 16:29 where he made a deep hole in the ground that's connected to the pool. So he put some water in the pool I'm guessing to rinse some of the dirt and he releases that tube and it drained the pool. He could do that for the entire house make a little drained area so that if it rains really hard it have somewhere to go. However he uses clay to line the inside of the pool so that the dirt doesn't just suck up the water so it could fill the pool. But the regular dirt without clay sucks up the water. So it would eventually get absorbed into the ground and probably dry back up. So if he adds a roof to the area where he made the pool he could use the roof as another means to stop the water from filling up the house. It would dip off the roof and he could make another gutter system going directly to the waterfall. Or making an area where the water can collect outside his home so that it doesn't overflow.
