The detail you put into this piece is better quality than the cannons they produced for the 400 million dollar TV series I worked on. You could teach the sculptors a hell of a lot.

Thanks so much Jeremy, that means a ton! I enjoy building these things to ride that line between historically correct, and mentally Stereotypical. One of these days I need to pick your brain on how they do things on actual movie sets, I have always been curious! Until then, I'll continue to madly create as long as people are willing to watch! lol. Thanks for coming by! :)

I love the idea of using strong magnets on pieces that are prone to breaking off - I am definitely going to incorporate this technique.
@SamhainPropworks Жыл бұрын
It is a life saver! In the time the cannon sat in my living room, those magnets saved the build no less than 6 times. I built a 3d printed version of this as well, as I loved how well it worked! Thanks for watch Cindy!

Quite possibly the best looking cannon build on the net! I noticed someone said movie quality... I concur.

I really appreciate the kind words Phil :) It was a lot of work to make it come together but I am really happy with the end results :) When it sits beside the treasure chest build, it has a pretty darn authentic look.. (Now to find somewhere to store them! ) lol. Thanks a bunch for watching!

I'd love to see you make a decent size brass antique/pirate telescope!
@SamhainPropworks3 жыл бұрын
Great idea! I'll put it on my list of props to build Phil! You looking for the hand held collapsing version, or a larger tripod based Telescope style of prop? Regardless, let me know and I'll see what I can come up with :)

I watch all three video’s and I got to say that is one authentic looking cannon, I’m a big fan of any kind of pirate / ship stuff and this prop is right up my alley. I’m going to try my hand at it for This Halloween as I’m wanting to do a pirate skeleton theme, thanks so much for sharing

Hey Randy! Thanks for watching the whole 3 part series! I'm currently planning on doing a set of pirate weapons you may enjoy as well, with the blunderbuss video coming out later this week! Thanks for watching :)

Omg🤣 THIS-----👉🏽7:13 I foresee as being a most epically hilarious failure!!!😂🤣 That hasn't stopped me yet though.🤪 I'll have to start small. Maybe a cannonball. Brilliant as always, Samhain!

I think you would build a canon brilliantly! Just give it a shot! :) I will admit, the finished prop might look a bit intimidating to tackle, but once you get into it I'm sure it will just work! Thanks for watching and commenting Fraidy Zone!

Very cool and detailed canon build. Very nice job and well done. Very realistic and authentic. I'm a prop builder. But, I'd just use the carpet tubes or a coupe gallon buckets to make a canon. I like to do thinking on a budget. But still get the same realistic look.
@SamhainPropworks Жыл бұрын
The 5 gallon buckets is a good idea! I have been thinking about another version of this that will hold up outdoors better. There is thousands of ways of getting to a final product and I really enjoy seeing all the different directions people take! I would love to see some of your cannons if you would be willing to share them. Regardless, thanks for the comment and thanks for watching :)

WOOOOWHO! I'm #500! I can't believe you don't already have 1M subscribers, you are a genius. I have been wanting to make a (fake) water hydrant for the yard for the Dogs. LOL I plan on using PVC for the bottom (main base part) and now you've given me some hope on using thick styrofoam for some other parts. You asked folks to suggest props you could make for videos, there's one for ya. A fire hydrant for outside and Dogs!
@SamhainPropworks3 жыл бұрын
What a great 500th Sub and a great comment! If you were going to build a hydrant out of foam and it will live outside, look at the Acrylic Grout I used on my hieroglyph build, it will add a harder, much more weather resistant shell to the foam and give it the ability to last much longer in the great outdoors! It will give it a grainy look, but would look passable on a old cast fire hydrant. I will put a fire hydrant on the list regardless, that is a great fun project idea! Thanks for watching Whispers :)

Thanks Weird Kid! I think so as well, but I have to be careful building too many props like this! I’m running out of room! Lol. Thanks for swinging by 😊

Now all you have to do is add the electronics to make it "fire". ;) Well done.
@SamhainPropworks3 жыл бұрын
I had thought about a smoke smoke machine to add that extra look, but decided that the mucking about to make it work and look properly was something that was beyond my want/will to do. I do want to go back and add a large sub, in a corner load type situation in the barrel to make it really go BOOM! followed up with some LED lights to coincide with the sound, but alas its on the edge of my skill set (But not beyond it) I just have to sit down with my Audrino kit and learn it and find the time to pull it off. Currently, I have a ton of projects I want to revisit with a part 2 to add light and sound. The cannon and the wall torch are at the top of my list. You might like this weeks video (If all goes according to plan) it's a large pirate chest! Thanks for watching Pirates of North Court!
@asmarteru3 жыл бұрын
In order for "easier" access to maintain the internal workings, my cannon barrel had to come apart. So it was built into my design. I'm working on another idea so the lights, smoke and fan are modular and I won't have to keep all the workings internal. Looking forward to your pirate chest build. I've made a couple small ones using cardboard boxes, craft foam & foamboard.
@SamhainPropworks3 жыл бұрын
I had thought of making all the elctronics to be contained in a 6" tube, that way I could just insert the mechanism down the barrel and make it easy to remove for maintenance as well. Now you have me thinking that I need to actually follow through with the electrification of the cannon :). Thanks for the reply Pirates! You are a talented prop maker! I'm going to work through your videos, your cannon is great!

This is so great! How do these hold up in the weather? Fantastic work!
@SamhainPropworks3 ай бұрын
The only part I would be concerned about is the barrel, as it is a concrete tube form. The multiple levels of paint should preserve it, but I am not sure as I have never tested it. Outside environments can be really hard on props and the short term props and the long term outdoor props have massively different build procedures. The recent mortar I built should hold up better as that was based around a 5 gallon bucket! :). Thanks for watching.

Absolutely beautiful. I can imaging putting one of those air pushing cannon toys ( don't know what they are called) on the end of the cannon and put flower in so that you could make smoke like a real cannon does.
@SamhainPropworks3 жыл бұрын
I had considered the smoke machine in the barrel effect, but all the versions I went and researched to see how the effect looked, seemed to be an awful lot of work for a little effect. I may rig up a vape pen unit and an aquarium pump to add smoke. I may revisit the cannon to add extra features like lights, sound and the aforementioned smoke. Thanks for watching Terry :)

Honestly Hemlawk, give it a shot! Start with the barrel as the materials for that are the cheapest and build your confidence from there! Any mistakes made are just added character! Don’t be too intimidated, overthinking it will just prevent you from trying it! Thanks for watching 😀

Thanks so much Grimwood, given your background a compliment about the prop being movie quality makes my day, I'm sure every prop maker has a feeling of imposter syndrome at times :) I love those magnet connections too, cheap and reliable, I am using them all over the place to protect and join anything that is obviously breakable. It's going to be wild going doing a smaller prop this week, this canon has been a pretty good part of my life for the last three weeks. Thanks again for watching :)
