A membership site isn't a SaaS though.

It's software, and you can charge a service fee for maintaining it. Software as a service.

If you're charging for it on a monthly/yearly subscription and the membership gives you access to content/features, I would call it a SaaS.
@happysloth91 Жыл бұрын
@@SimonHoiberg no it's not. This is like Udemy. Udemy isn't a SaaS. Teachable however is a SaaS. Because you can use the *software* to create your own elearning platform. The same way a paid newsletter isn't a software. Gated content + membership doesn't make a SaaS. The membership isn't what make it a SaaS, that's just a business model. Sure the majority of them use the membership model but you can even sell it with a one-time fee. A SaaS has an input/output logic.

@@happysloth91 I think it's worth noting that there isn't really a universal definition of what a SaaS is - some call Netflix a SaaS. By your definition, it's not. A membership website with courses is not classified as SaaS (Software as a Service). SaaS refers to platforms like Teachable or Webflow, which allow you to build websites with courses and membership options. On the other hand, Netflix, although it enables video streaming, does not fall under the category of SaaS. Platforms such as Dacast, Brightcove, StreamYard, or Restream, which provide the ability to stream your own video content or conduct live streaming, are examples of SaaS.

@@capnanaya4642 About what specific thing he talks at minut 8? If you add more features to membership site it still won't be a SaaS solution :) Webflow is SaaS, but not the product you build with it.
@capnanaya4642 Жыл бұрын
@@sovopl You are completely wrong there. Netflix for example, DOES fall under the cathegory of SaaS (especially legally speaking) as first, there is a service being sold, and secondly, users are utilizing it to get something from that platform. By definition a software is "a set of instructions, technically referred to as programs, that perform operations". Meaning that regardless if you created your website with webflow or if you are just providing a seemingly "non-software" related service as you wrongly defined it, it is still labeled as a software service as it respects the definition, even if you are just sending back a text output of "hello" after a user's purchase, let alone giving full access to private courses.
