I put in 5 rain gardens on our property since learning about them 10 years ago. One of them collects water from our neighbor’s large driveway and another receives street runoff before it gets to the drain and from our driveway. The other three are like what you described in your video. I love rainy days! No rain leaves our property unless it’s a hurricane. Thx for the excellent video!

At 3:18 you use shingles to calculate roof area. But to calculate rain catchment area you need to compensate for the roof's slope.

We were forced to put a mechanical drain field above our clay based soil. But every spring, the middle of our 2 acre lot, sees up to 2 feet of rain water. The biggest problem is the roadways and house runoff, (no ditching). I’m now convinced we can remedy this problem by placing a deep rain garden on either side of the house! One is already developed as a deep pond hole planted in cattails, fountain grasses, and Pusey willow. There’s even a small willow tree coming along! I can’t wait to get the other side done. My greenhouse, potting shed, and the chicken coop were inaccessible March through April 2023 rendering them useless

This would be amazing on my property in Charlotte, NC. I hate watching the white waters rushing down between my house and my neighbors and into the gutters on the street!

I live on a suburban street mid-hill in Colorado Springs. The soil is sandy and loose and erodes downhill during torrential rains from several houses uphill and collect against a cedar fence corner under a spruce tree… the rest of the year it is hot and dry.

Thanks. I have a swale in the back yard and water still pools close to the house. There is a huge tree that makes it difficult. I might have to try some of your ideas. Thanks!

Keep in mind that the huge tree does soak up a lot of water, so hopefully you don't plan on getting rid of it just to replace it with a rain garden.
