Those square pegs are a beautiful touch. It is neat how you can hear when they are fully seated. This is a project I have been thinking of making for our kitchen. Thanks for the video.

I sort of laughed at "old enough to remember the 80's" as I sit remembering helping my Dad build our house in the 60's. You do bring back a lot of good memories of my Dad, thank you!

Hi Jon, about 40 years ago I made this exact stool, minus the handle, with hand cut dovetails. Still in use today.

Hello Jon, I enjoy very much your woodworking projects, great job. Question for you on this particular project, if I were to use wooden dowels instead of screws to fasten the pieces together, will the stool be less solid? thanks
@perfectlynormaldave9 ай бұрын
Rule of thumb is dowels are actually stronger than screws provided you're also using a little wood glue.
@JonPetersArtHome9 ай бұрын
Not at all, dowels would work … might just take a little longer to build

Hey Mr. JP, do you have a video showing how you made that big wooden push guard you use for your table saw? I wanna make one for my wood shop and would rather not have it catch on the blade and come flying up at my head because i built it incorrectly.

I think you’re referring to the tablesaw sled… If that’s it search crosscut sled on my channel and you should find it.

Lovely piece. Like you, I haven’t purposely distressed a piece in decades. Are you still using that UV cured hard wax oil? I heard that there were issues?
@JonPetersArtHome8 ай бұрын
Thank you! I haven’t used it in a long time… the dry time is great but it’s a lot of work.
@theofarmmanager2678 ай бұрын
@@JonPetersArtHome thank you. For almost every internal piece, my go to finish is 2 pack hard wax oil. If I’m making pieces like picture frame, I go back to shellac as there is no need for durability; everything else, 2 pack HWO. I now only use 2 pack as, like most woodworkers, I don’t have a dedicated finishing room or area and so really want that relatively quick cure. My only trial with the UV cure was….disappointing. Late last year, the Wood Whisperer published a video reviewing all the 2 pack HWO and his overall winner was Natura Onecoat. I had never heard of it and so contacted the makers. It was only launched in the US in 2023 and will be launched here in the UK this year. They were kind enough to send me a sample and it is by far the best that I have tried. Of course, 2 pack costs more per tin but you only need one coat and Natura covers about 55 square yards per litre. For me, it’s a lot easier to use than Rubio and certainly cheaper. If you’d like to try a sample, I’d be very happy to ask the guys at Natura to send you some? Just let me know

Dude, you have totally misconstrued the purpose of the ‘handle’. It’s NOT about being too lazy to bend over to pick up the stool, it;s about safety as you step up to the top.
