Build your own DIY styrene or strip wood chopper using cheap materials. A razor blade is secured to a simple guillotine made of scrap pine wood. A bolt is used for the hinge and a tile is used for the cutting surface. Using a tile instead of a rubber mat ensures you get a clean precise cut and a chopper cutting surface that will not deteriorate over time.

Finally getting around to building this based off your design. You ask for ideas so here’s what I changed. I used a cheap kitchen chopping block made from the white plastic for chop arm. This should last forever. I also drilled the hole on the mechanism larger to accept a Teflon bearing for the rod. I think this makes for smoother operation. I still say thanks for the base plan to finally get a chopped. Now we need to incorporate angles.

very cool. that could be very useful for cutting slices of evergreen rods, etc. to act as buttons etc. I find I often have to cut a few because I end up cutting at an angle rathar than 90 degrees like you are able to. cheers

Rowan, your son talked me into it. I subscribed. I love this idea for a chopper! Now, I have another tool to build! Much lower cost than the $30 they usually sell for.

Just subbed to your channel. Thanks for one of the few chopper build vids that are actually useful. They shoulda used your clamp idea. I’ll be making one of these for myself. I’m going to use that hard plastic instead of the wood to see how it turns out. Looking forward to checking out your channel. Great job 👍 Whoa it must be pretty good! I see Luke commented!

The actual chopper from NorthWest Shoreline is only like forty bucks. Considering the time and the materials needed to build this you've already nickel and dimed yourself up to more than that.

Okay hands up who has a tile cutter sitting on a shelf doing nothing?. Just undo the two stands that hold bars and handle transfer onto a piece of wood and work out hoe to adapt the blades your gonna use? Providing you don't mess it up to much you can convert it back for that job she needs to be done NOW. Depends on what one you have your cutting length will be 12" / 30cm +
