Thank You Very Much for your demo!!! It seems like I have been watching videos for hours (and I'm sure I have been) and yours is the BEST one I've watched. I have subscribed to your channel and have given a thumbs up. I'm 74 years and getting back into model railroading (S 1/64 scale) after years of being away. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rather than just at random “making trees” I researched and am modeling my tree shapes on Douglas Fir and Hemlock Fir tree shapes that would be correct for my northwestern states area forest’s. I’ve made 25 Douglas Firs and 15 Hem Firs of mixed heights and will randomly mix them on the hillsides.

Hey Bill love this method. Only thing I changed was I used fine sifted saw dust to glue and roll the trunk with since color doesn’t matter because it’s being painted. Trees are looking good can’t wait to make more

Hi Bill, love your modeling! I found a 3/8 - 1/2” balsa stick shapes quickly with a razor knife or better a draw knife. Than textured with a 4-5 wood screw moving up and down the trunk. Paint or flock. Insert a bamboo skewer in the bottom for planting. Might save a few minutes per tree. Also mounting in a drill for spray painting makes painting a little more even and faster. Happy modeling!

Hey Bill, Very good video and helpful. Your finished product looks great! I was wondering if you could shed more light on the specific brand of furnace filter material you are using. Home Depot in our area only has fiberglass filter material, and I think you mentioned that the material you use is a natural fiber (14:57). Are you using Hog Hair filter material perhaps? We tried using Scotch-Brite scouring pads (Industrial Strength); the only thing we could find that seemed close, and it worked OK, but those are no fun to pull apart into thin layers. This seems to be the key part of great looking trees so we'd like to get it right. Thanks!
@modelrailroadadventureswit6347

It’s called NaturalAire. I haven’t checked Home Depot in a while but I see online that places like Ace Hardware and others carry it. It works perfect for these trees 😃

Bill, another great video and narrative! I appreciate the refresher course on how you make your pine trees. I hadn’t caught the part where you tear the the cut filter into four separate pieces before. Thanks a lot for time and details you put in your videos! 👍🏻👍🏻 I am glad you get so much pleasure doing scenery. To most of us scenery is the hardest of the hobby, but you make it enjoyable. How long did it take you to develop your tree technology or did you learn it from someone?

Bill, regarding your guardrails on the O scale standard bridge. It got me to thinking. If I may suggest. Since this layout reflects 40s-50s.. they still had fire barrels on the wooden bridges back then. Perhaps a couple on the mainline bridges?

Trees got the most comments from modelers and I’ll be giving an NMRA local clinic on them soon. Probably 30 or more folks commented on them and asked how I made them 😄

Question: Regarding the color of the furnace filter material. Would you recommend the green you used over other colors such as white, blue, pink, yellow, etc.? Maybe doesn't matter with the undercoat painting.
@modelrailroadadventureswit6347
@modelrailroadadventureswit6347 Жыл бұрын
The color of the filter material probably doesn’t matter since the paint will cover. I did find that the natural fiber filters are better than the synthetic ones as you get a more natural appearance of what shows through in the end
