Build BBQ Rotating Mechanism

In this video I show the process of manufacturing a rotating mechanism for my BBQ that I previously made from a water boiler.
For the motor I decided to use a cordless drill. That was a new experience for me and I have encountered many difficulties in this project, such as cutting gears. After mounting I didn't expect they will spin, but the abrasive grease helped, everything worked! Fire testing also went smoothly.

You're absolutely right! A bike chain with a bike gear will do the job more easily. One more thing a mechanism like this can never be carried out at home

I saw the makita drill appeared to be the motor mechanism. Something that suggested a quick fix solution to the problem of what to use as a motor. But after the washers are brought into the shop I became aware that this was not going to be a simple DIY to set up the devise I’m hoping to use today with very little effort. Next after the division lines of the washer further perplexed my hopes for quick and easy. Bust out the CNC machine to make gears and it’s clearly becoming a Henry Ford assembly line project to mass produce a pile of puny piggies or fowl. Great idea. But I’m going to watch the build because I love clever, but not when I’m wanting something asap and basic. The wheel is already working, not planning to make it better. You can work on that clearly better than I can. 😂

По-хорошему, сюда бы электропривод с управляющей электроникой, чтобы вращение было не постоянным, а дискретным, и с возможностью устанавливать угол поворота и промежуток времени - например, каждые 3 минуты поворачивать на 60°. Плюс задний блок шестерней прикрыть кожухом, а то мало ли - сунет кто-нибудь палец или нос. А сама бибикьюшница замечательная, как и всё, что вы делаете:)

Thanks! But no need, during the operation everything is very hot, so everyone stays far away, even when the gears are cold it's impossible to turn without a motor. That's why I don't see any risk, even with small children.

Apart from the obvious safety concern about unprotected gears, could the heat from the barbeque make the lithium battery in your drill explode? Assuming the batteries are lithium that is.

Nice job! I'd cover those gears though , they are dangerous, mostly for children. But may I ask you something? Why not using bicycle a chain and some bicycle gears that are very strong and you could find them as scrap ? For sure It would be a much easier and faster build.. And for a motor you could use a 12v car or a lorry 24v(stronger) windshield motor mechanism with a dimmer.. Enjoy your barbecues!

I wouldn’t use galvanized washers. Galvanizing is zinc , and when zinc get hot it puts off poisonous fumes.

No, there is sufficient clearance for ventilation so the screwdriver with battery are cold
