Hey from New Zealand ,cool little rotor motors ,Iv rebuilt a few Mazda 12a and 13b rotors over the years ,very interesting intake port and its timing and little air gaps in the rotor for cooling ,side port exhaust like a RX8,great vid

I bought one of those new and have it mounted on a 18inch Lawn Boy deck. Very few hours on it due the junk Italian magneto. The ignition coil has the condenser built into it and it's kaput. When I have the time, I think a Tecumseh/ Phelon ignition coil might work in this application with the external condenser, to restore a hot spark.

Hey Liam, you left a question on my channel about a year ago...and I stupidly never looked at your channel after replying :) Great to see this info here, as you say, finding any good info on the sachs wankels is pretty difficult. Mine is a KM37, looks very like the one one your bench in the lawnmower vid. It came out of a British Cymbeline radar-unit which was towed behind a jeep, the KM37 powered a generator for the radar power. Sadly it didn't have the gearbox or any other attachments. They discontinued that model around 1970...I've had it running, but It's still missing the flywheel, I did eventually manage to get all the dimensions for one, so will have to machine it. As it's setup to run as a generator it's got a clever self-regulating RPM govenor, using the airspeed produced by the cooling fan (I may have been a bit brash removing all that, but plan to fit a better throttling carb...if you have any suggestions?) I bought it for peanuts from an ebay auction, and felt very guilty when picking it up as he clearly knew it was worth a lot more. I have a few documents on that model if you wanted them...but I'm thinking you probably have far more info than I do :)

The best you can do with this KM-3 engine from lawn mower would be carving side seal grooves to have it in both sides, with the original arrangement, only if the rotor side with no seals faces down, can a good CR be achieved.

Some anaerobic sealant between the case parts might help with sealing it. That's what they use for 2-stroke outboard engines.

hey mate some times ago i bought a dissasembled km3 but the owner didn t have the side seals and side springs, where did you get your new seals? nice video btw , will apply your tricks for ignition when i will rebuild mine and let s hope the ignition gets back to life

I found them on eBay kleinanzeigen. Km3s show up there often enough. You might be able to find a spare engine. And no problem!

Hey man, not to experienced with these. Reassembling my km3 and was wondering if there is any timing of the rotor to the eccentric shaft when it goes in? Or does it not matter? 😅

@@everythingexe I got a 1972 Grass Cat with same engine, but no spark. Cleaned connectors and ensured magnets are working. New plug, and the ground kill switch is not making contact, any ideas? Hoping it's not a bad coil pack 😥if it is, do you know where I can get one?

​​@@everythingexeThe Sachs-Dolmar Chainsaw had same basic engine, with Side seals in both sides of Rotor, allowing to work in any position, but spare Rotors for this Chainsaw are very difficult to find. The Lawnmower had no seals in lower side as it was placed horizontally, Rotor weight was considered enough for tightness. Blessings +
