Build Review & Modifications of the Suscovich Chicken Tractor!

In this video, I am building two of the John Suscovich Chicken Tractor’s for our 60 Cornish Cross chicks who are ready to come out of the brooder. I am following the plans as detailed in John Suscovich’s book, “Stress-Free Chicken Tractor Plans”. I did find a few basic modifications to the plans that I wanted to make and I share them in this video. If you are thinking about getting into pastured chickens, I highly recommend his book!

Thank you for the notes on the build. The book is reaching 10 years old and thousands of copies old. Amazing people like yourselves have taught me so much about the initial design. It still holds up, but there is definitely room for improvement with my instructions.

Ya, with summers that hover around triple digits here in Alabama, the roll up sides give us another way to help ensure happy healthy chickens.

The coups look really nice. The only problem I see with them is there seems to be gaps between the boards and the ground, and I wonder if that could lead to problems with predators ? Otherwise, they look good and can’t wait to see the chickens in them.

Thanks for the comment! My next video will be on us moving the chicks from the brooder to the tractors! We used the pieces I cut of the tops of the PVC feeders and small blocks of wood to fill in the gaps until the chickens get a little bigger. Plus we run a hot wire around the tractors to help deter predators.

So i made a chicken tractor a lot like these years ago but for hoop i used hog panels. Its heavy and i didn't move it much but that was my fault. The back fell off the first move so instead of hearding chickens again it stayed put

In the book, John Suscovich mentions building without the half lap joints. Says it OK.

Half lap is not for just anyone. Sould be left to pros.
