This is a tough one....he did a great job on the lights themselves....no doubt the originals were far too noisy, and moved way too fast. BUT...I like that the blue lense cover is clear on the originals. I almost wonder if it would be possible to take the "guts" out of Ian's lights and mount them in the stock housing somehow?
@scottysgarage4393
@scottysgarage4393 Жыл бұрын
The problem is he did this with LED's. There's nothing moving in there and the opaque lenses are required to hide that fact. No more often than I'd have the lights on I'd have to stick with the noisy originals.

@@scottysgarage4393 Yea....after doing several of these cars, I've realized I never really "use" the electrics. They pretty much just sit on the shelf. I take pictures of them with the bells and whistles for "Facebook Likes"....but then I never turn them on again.

I think so long as they're not really stuck in there, e.g. embedded in a resin block, then you should be able to. If necessary, to hide the LEDs, you could put some frosted window film inside to make them look a bit more opaque (to maintain original blue lenses, rather than scuff them up for the frosting). You could try the poor man's opaque material and cut up the milk containers :) I've ordered a set, but haven't yet got my lights (only up to issue 27 and the lights come in 35 I think) so won't be able to test the theory for a while yet.

Yes, it is possible! PU lights can be busted open and the guts are high quality and self contained pcb/led. Fits inside current EM light bars. Tricky part is switch, I’m still working on it but splicing on a momentary tactile switch will work I think as it will bypass PU switch. To hide pcb better, I scuffed up inside of lens wit( fine sandpaper to diffuse. This fix will look better on outside with no noise. I’m working with Ian to keep him posted so he may commercialize sometime!

Those new lights are way better for being quieter, however i like the look of the originals better as it's more in keeping with the vehicle design. That said i understand that the new mod uses LEDs so naturally you can't have that clear housing, its a shame that you can't have the best of both. Would there be any way to change the motor/gearing in order to make it less noisy?

Man, that's a hard no for me. A simple resistor and better gease quiets down the originals and rotators can be modified to rotate the correct way. That just looks horrible, especially since most of the time its not going to be lit up. Sorry but that's me

plusses and minuses... They do look a bit sloppy on the molding and the LEDs are a bit... off. The old ones are a bit (lot) noisy. I think most of the problem is the speed they are spinning at. A resistor would fix the rattling of the gears by slowing it down, or at least tone down the bee hive sound. I am still trying to find out what the last pack I had was before Eaglemoss stopped sending me packages, as my old home burned down and I have no earthly idea of which parts (they were in large tote boxes) I transported here beforehand, and got a couple of packs at the old address before the fire. I may have to design a new setup and print it before I make up my mind. BTW, I think the aquarium display case may also assuage the noise, but, as one would have to remove that every time they turned it on... I will think on this.

Hey Wayne,after watching your review of the Partworks Upgrade Siren Lights I am seriously considering ordering these.I haven't even made it to this stage yet (still on stage 107-110) but if I order these now I should have them in plenty of time until I am ready to put these on the car. But I fully agree those that come with the car really do sound worse than nails on a chalkboard.I am sure they are gonna sell the hell out of these from Modelers wanting quiet lights without all that racket.Thanks a million for posting this as always you are a lifesaver.

Awesome!! The original Eaglemoss (now Fanhome), motors sound exactly like the Polar Lights light/spinning Bussard grills on the 1:350 TOS Enterprise upgrade kit. Glad there is a third party doing a quieter version of the light bars. By the way, I am re-familiarizing myself to your DeLorean build as I recently started the subscription build.

The lack of an annoying noise is definitely an improvement - I have quite sensitive hearing so that would drive me round the bend - but I feel like the originals looked a lot nicer, there is kind of a roughness to them that slightly lowers the effect, because the original ones looked great. I suppose with this it comes down to what is more of a concern, the noise or the aesthetic.

I'm curious, are the gears from the original build greased at all? I get that some of the noise is from the motors themselves but the gears to turn the lights will also make some noise when turning. As others have said, I do prefer the look of the original lenses, the PWU ones are not really dark enough. I wonder if a thin coat of tinted epoxy would help to match the colour better
@WorldofWayneUK

Wow- would agree with some comments, don't like the mod light case, take out its guts mod the original light bar ,put mod light bar guts in to original light bar base then spray frost cover on the inside of original light bars so hard to see through ,then place back on top of now mod original light bar and you get best of both worlds, original exterior look but with a silent light effect that gives you options in light effect with out the noise.

The grey/'metal' part of the Artwork Upgrades lighter just looks cheap. Even painted, there's no getting away from how 'plasticky' it looks. Need to look at transplanting over the wraparound aluminium piece from the original part. Also, 4:26 - is there come sort of film covering the blue plastic that has to be peeled off, as if not, that is the roughest and bumpiest molding I've seen...

I really don’t like the look of the RC lights on the Ecto. Then the blue just doesn’t look right. Some grease on the gears and resistor lowering the load helps so much more. I guess some will ant it, just not for me, Hank it’s the RC lights and the blue look that turns it in to a toy look. 🤷‍♂️

I removed the electronics from the original beacon assembly and fitted them in the existing fixtures on the Ecto-1 RC after converting all the electronics. Possibly something you could use in your future projects! I'm pretty sure you could fit 8 on top!! There's also another function that spins slower that's that's more realistic to the original. ✌️ kzbin.infoKF5SRyLTtgo?feature=share

I am not building this one so I can not detect the problem. I assume the noise is comming from the gears. So for those of you who are building it, it might be worth a shot to find or make some small pulley wheels (3d print) and use a small rubber band to connect them. Or just make sure the teeth of the gears are greased and not grabbing anything else.
