Thank you so much for the detailed, clean, and useful tutorial! It's been a pleasure going through and building my own Notion habit tracker with you! One tiny suggestion would be to add maybe a verbal warning or some sort when it comes to duplicating it for all the days in the week since I personally have experienced some fatigue towards the later half of the video. Thanks for the tutorial, really useful as you are talking about the “engine” behind the front-end which most other youtubers don’t do. I want to measure changes over time. I have been using a spreadsheet but it’s ugly. This seems to make much more sense. Can you give a heads up of how you might capture data collected, rather than just “did I/Did I not do ”?

I just started studying rn and in order to organize my life a bit better I am really trying to get more into Notion since i think it is the best life organizing software. I was now looking out for some good Tutorails and i have to say: You´re the best. You explain the Topics really well and following your tutorials is not just copying a template but much more understanding how this whole system works. This really helps me understanding Notion. Thank you!! But i also have one question: Is there any way to make a formula or database that summarizes all the percenteges of the week to show some kind of overall completation. For example on your dashboard to always see how much you have done. I think this would really help getting me motivated to reach my goals.
@BetterCreating3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lucas, thanks for watching and so cool to read you find the explanations good and are working! Nice! Yes, nice idea: I suppose if all your habits lasted the same period of time, you could take an average percentage progress for everything - but don’t think that’s really what you are wanting. You would probably need to set up your tracker and calculate the total sum of all instances of actions across the whole period - perhaps this can be done with a second database that uses roll-ups to do this? Needs some thinking about! Perhaps quite Complicated I think! Good luck, if I come up with something will let you know. :)

Fair play, exactly what I was looking for. Quick question, how would you deal with the fact that some habits are Monday to Friday (e.g. reach out to new clients) and others such as drink water are Monday to Sunday. This tracker would show that I only have a 71% progress for the work related tasks. Not the end of the world but have you covered this in another video and is it possible? Great video. Like given and subscribed!

Thanks Daniel - yes - for more granular habit planning and tracking I would use a different approach - I made a more complex version part of my Productive and Complete Life OS templates that allows you to set the frequency, unit (days/weeks/months) and start end end date to see a progress report. Another option is to program something using Bardeen.ai to generate habits automatically into a database on the days you want them - free - but more advanced to set up - but fab! The API is here!

Fabulous habit tracker, works great, once setup it’s simple, and beautiful. Genius :) I do have one challenge, every time I create a new week, it creates a new practices page which fills up my side menu. Is that supposed to happen? I did modify the template, so not sure if I did anything wrong…
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Thanks glad you like it! Make sure your template button is generating an inline table not a full database page - that could be why it is creating loads of them in side bar?!
@missswissdreamer2 жыл бұрын
@@BetterCreating Thank you, so I am not sure how to edit it to check if it creates an inline table rather than a page. This morning I deleted the entire thing and went back to the simple notion template I purchased from you. I duplicated it, opened it in my notion, and then "moved" the template and the archive to my dashboard. Still, when I click on new week, it creates a new page in my side menu. Not sure how to change it...any ideas would be appreciated! Thank you Simon!
@missswissdreamer2 жыл бұрын
It looks like it is a database itself in your "A Simplified Notion | Your Analog Weekly Planner" Template. I am trying to convert it to an inline, but I can't seem to figure that out...sigh
@missswissdreamer2 жыл бұрын
When I move "Practices" to my dashboard page, it creates a page under my dashboard. Then I click on the 3 dots on the top right of the database and try to "Turn into Inline", but it only allows me to "Turn into Page", which might mean that it is an inline already. I recreated the toggle and the template button, yet still, every time I hit "New Week" it creates an instance in the side menu...is that supposed to happen? At the end of the year there would be 52 instance of this...
@BetterCreating2 жыл бұрын
Ah ok - I think I understand what you are saying now. Yes : It is likely true that you will have inline tables listed within the page that they are stored within. However you should be moving them to The Archive page so they would all sit as items within this page. I haven’t found this an issue in my side bar as they all sit within the toggle of the habit tracker archive page… if this isn’t want you want, it may be better to build out a habit tracker where you set habits horizontally in a database view and and then add a new date as a new column each day. This could be a better option for you if you want to format everything into one database. Hope that helps!

Thanks for watching! The Practices view on the dashboard is a linked database view of the main database so all the same thing. It may be that percentages aren’t changing visibly if it’s a practice being tracked over a long period. Hope that helps.

Hi there. If I'm understanding you correctly you use the tracker for just one week and then archive it in the archive page. You need to create a blank version of the database first and drop this into the template button so when you generate it you can start fresh each week. If you want to manage what shows each day: change the filters to show / not show anything already ticked. You should each board view by the day it is labelled, then you can switch to a new day once done with the previous so you aren't looking at all cards on all days. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching Simon

So for example, once 2021 ends, there's a round up telling me that I've read 87% of the year, worked out for 70% of the year, etc, so that I can have a goal number to hit for the next year?
@BetterCreating3 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert: yes, the other habit tracker I’ve built for my downloadable templates does that: it was pretty complicated to make work: but essentially you have to do it as logged number against a target number, over a set period and then work out the percentage. Check out my other vids on my system if you are interested: full tour: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qau3i5d7hticr9U / habit trackers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXubXqSqhd-Ym9k. Hope that helps. :)

Ah yes, I see that now. Thank you! I do prefer this habit tracker more, as it's a bit simpler and looks nicer on my phone when I'm doing some of these practices elsewhere. I saw that at the time you didn't quite figure out how to total up the numbers from this specific habit tracker. Did you by any chance figure it out? I've been trying to figure out how to do it most of the day yesterday, but failed to get any result.
@BetterCreating3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robert; yeah, I’ve been thinking about it too: the issue is it seems almost impossible to tally up results all from one column / or, you would have to use roll-ups from every single week into another. Database: I’m not convinced.... will keep thinking! Let me know if you work anything out. The alternative could be to do single days down the page, and then work out a way to take a total of check boxes... tricky.

@@BetterCreating yea, I made a new table in the archive page with every week in it, and only until at the end of the year once ive made a database for each week (granted i can do it now, but dont want to 😅), i can make a formula with all relations and rollups. Question: Is there a way I could change the formula to work for Monday-Friday? I am a teacher and I have routines I do in the classroom and this tracker would be very helpful but I don't need to track Sunday and Saturday for school routines.

Yes, I’ve idea: the easy way would be to make a weekday tracker: create 5 columns and change the maths in the formula to work out the percentage across 5 rather 7. Should be easy enough. Just delete two days and adjust the numbers and brackets. :)

You’ll also then have to adjust the reports in the same way - add the new percentages you get from the updated percentage column calculations to the 1/5 2/5 and the PERFECT / GOOD etc Status column. It should work if you delete the extra two report options: have a play: great way to work out how the formulas work. Good luck!

@@BetterCreating I tried but I'm probably not doing it right. Here is the formula, It says "too few arguments in function if" if(prop("% Progress") == 0.00, "0/5", if(prop("% Progress") == 0.2, "1/5", if(prop("% Progress") == 0.4, "2/5", if(prop("% Progress") == 0.6, "3/5", if(prop("% Progress") == 0.8, "4/5", if(prop("% Progress") == 1.0, "5/5"))))))

Hi Rebecca - good work: getting there: too few arguments means you don’t have the ‘if it’s not any of these do this’ at the end. Delete the section for 0/5 at the start, then add simply ‘ , 0/5 ‘ after the final proposition. This basically means “ , otherwise just put 0/5)))))”. Make sense!? 👍🤗

I'm not following on why there's a "Skip Day" section instead of just counting completions against a fixed number like 7, to pick a random number. Being able to click "Skip" to remove it from the screen stops its passive aggressive glaring at you to encourage you to do it. If you don't, it only goes away when you switch to the next day.

I hear you, but I like the accountability in this simple version of owning when you missed stuff. Would work just as well without it thou if (exactly), people find the skip box is taunting them! :)

Thank you for making this video, However I feel it's a bit too complicated & unnecessary for something as simple as a habit tracker

Thanks for watching! Yes: it’s definitely a complicated one to test the possibilities. The second much simpler one I made in the other habit tracker video is free to download at bettercreating.com/downloads FYI. :)
