Well, it looks that you may also need a pipe to bend the middle section. And the last bend in diagram is different from what is being shown in video?

You mentioned it'd 4dBi, but what's the expected SWR of that antenna on 868MHz?

VSWR considerably below 2:1. Not really very difficult since the antenna is very narrow band so NOT getting good VSWR would be really sloppy. Likely reason why Peter didn't mention it specifically

Hi Helium Network, the Antenna that Peter and Cameryn made is also known as a Super-J Antenna and it has a theoretical Gain of around 4dBi. The question of distance depends on many factors such as the terrain where you are deploying the Antenna, the main factor being a totally unobstructed line-of-sight to the Helium Transceiver you will be communicating with,. Further factors that will of course determine the distance will be the Gain of this Antenna (the one at the target Transceiver), the Output Power of this (target) Transceiver etc etc. The best way to compare this Super-J antenna's performance is to calculate how much it will improve the distance of a halfwave Dipole Antenna where both Antennas in the comparison will be mounted in the same position. A Halfwave Dipole has a theoretical Gain of 2.15dBi so the difference between a 'standard Halfwave and the 'Super-J' Antenna will be approximately 1.85dB. If you were, for instance, able to communicate over 10km with an outside Halfwave Dipole, given the Free Space Path Loss at 868MHz and you were to mount a Super-J in the place of the Halfwave Dipole, you will theoretically be able to communicate at the same level with a Transceiver 12.37km away. However, this is where the difference between an Antenna inside a building versus mounting the Antenna outside makes a massive difference. The theoretical Signal Loss from outside a Building (or Residential Property, any Building really) is anywhere between 16dB - 20dB depending on the Frequency. In other words, anywhere from 40x to 100x LESS Signal. Our OMNI-300 Antenna has a Gain of 4.5dBi across the LoRa Frequencies and has an easy-to-mount bracket for either mounting it on a Wall or on a Pole (Mast) and will provide you with huge increase in performance over an inside Antenna. Attached is a Case Study showing how an outside Antenna improves Helium coverage. @@pieterprinsloo1022 thank you. if I use a wire thicker than 2.5mm do you think the dbi will grow up? I have a lot of miners at 20km from me but bettween them and me i have a small forest and i think if i increase the dbi i will be able to hit them

@@heliumnetwork2871 No, the wire diameter doesn't affect the gain (dBi). To get more gain, add more 1/2 wave elements, the same way as the upper 1/2 wave and phasing coil (the rounded loop) on the antenna in the video.
