Thank you, Amy, for making this video. I never used the O-inks, but your idea really comes close. I think the presence of alcohol in the mixture is the problem for the breakdown. I would suggest glycerin instead. I saw a video from Sandra (createinspain) and she uses equal amounts of acrylic paint and watercolor paint, both tube. The results are amazing but the mixture dries if not used. I love your idea of making a bigger batch and keeping the mixture in zip lock bags. With glycerine it might keep longer. I think I will try this with food coloring instead of the watercolor, along with acrylic ink. Thanks again for sharing! 😊

Michael's is changing out the packaging for their creatology brand of washable kids paints. They are selling all their stock at .27 cents per 3.3 oz pouch. New ones are $1 each. I've been using it for gelli prints and it works well. Not the highest pigment load, but it's kids paint and washable.

My guess was right from last week's supplies list!! Very interesting comparisions and formulations Amy. Half the fun is trying stuff to see will it work. It's a work in progress, and I feel you'll get it right someday. Did you try gouache (opaque watercolor)? A starter set is cheap enough to pick up. I've reinked pigment pads with it successfully. What does the hand sanitizer do, how does it work as a binder? The video was not too long at all, in fact I couldn't believe it went in so fast. I could watch you all day Amy, I'd love to go to a workshop if you had one, lol!! Greetings from Ireland
@aljohn5 жыл бұрын
Hello Angel :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I love to play around and see what I can come up with :) I am not sure the sanitizer is a binder, but it keeps the product from molding and gives it a more liquid base :) Tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy

Great video. Don't worry if a video is too long. People can fast forward. I want to see it all! I was wondering if you e6000 a little sponge to the opposite side of the ink container, the bottom that is now the lid, and just spritz it with water to keep the pads moist. May want to put a little alcohol in the water so your sponge doesn't mold. But it should make a moist atmosphere for the ink pad. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Also, I figure if anything gets too wet, leave it open to the air for awhile and let evaporation dry it for you. THANKS for all your hard work! 💕

I really liked your experiment for oxide inks. I have a few of the Tim Holts ones, but haven’t really figured out how I’d use them. But now will. About your experiments, I think the color is good, but the white aspect isn’t enough. You probably need better paints. When you buy paint you are buying pigment plus binders. I think if I were trying this I would use a better quality white, rather than Crayola kids paint. So your hand sanitizer would be the binder and the food coloring your base color, then when it comes to white, I’d use something that said Titanium White on it. That would make it more opaque, too. A little higher quality would be Michaels brand white acrylic. That would add to your cost though. Thanks, Amy, I’ve learned so much from you and intend to make my own stamps and pads like you do! Yay!!!

Wouldn't the acrylic separate with the alcohol in the sanitizer? Never having really studied distress inks I have no further comment other than using a gouache which will fall outside of the $5.00 price tag.

Gouache is what I was going to suggest since the oxides are water reactive and very opaque. Personally I wouldn't spend the huge money it would take to collect a set of oxides after getting a free one in a order and trying it, unimpressive. Something homemade would be a better choice , fun to make and you can make exactly what you want. I LOVE videos that teach us how to make our own products.

I found out about two months ago if this particular hand sanitizer this ground that was sold at the Dollar Tree was recalled and they asked people to take it to a hazardous waste material Place excuse me and turn it in and have it destroyed I'm only telling you this because if anybody else bought it they should get rid of it and I turned in three of my bottles and I just found two days ago the last bottle of it that I bought and I threw it in the garbage but in this is not to embarrass anyone or put anyone down at all that I would get different hand sanitizer and use it but they didn't want you to take it back to the Dollar Tree that's how dangerous this particular hand sanitizer was sorry Amy I just thought I'd let you know
