I had the same issue my friend I found a solution I found a product named big time exterminator this stuff works great along side diatomaceous earth root drench day one day two foliar and foliage spray top soil spray day three same thing maybe twice that day spray your soil not to much but enough to kill any scragglers day four spread your diatomaceous earth (thick mix in top three inches of soil hint diatomaceous earth only is effective while dry this method worked for me I recommend buying the gallon jug for $115 the big time exterminator is not what it sounds like look up the company it's natural oils and enzymes I did use drzymes did not work for me hope this helps also try to keep your soil moisture down for the first two weeks so you don't ramp up another infestation

Microbelift BMC @ 2 drops per gallon , used every watering even with nutes is fine. It's BTI on steroids!! Doesn't raise or lower pH either. Only thing that has kept fungas gnats away. Did nothing for springtails 😅, but those are beneficial up to a point ( plus BTI ONLY works for mosquitoes and fungas gnats ) Cheers

Ok, dump those gnats in your worm bin.... next question... how to get rid of these from your bin! 😂 Once they're in, don't let them out. Once they're out, don't let them back in! Yes, add a physical barrier like shredded cardboard, etc... well, it always boils down to: 1. Don't attract them pests with aka wet fungi rich surfaces 2. If the surface is wet and somehow fungi friendly, put a physical barrier, sand, thick dry mulch layer Don't overwater and have a good and dry mulch layer, and don't underestimate the power of yellow sticky fly-trap paper. Indoors fungus gnats is like the outdoors vegetable garden's slug issues... easily controlled once you understand how they thrive. Allow experience to... be made and sink in. Observe and learn, and share the knowledge. I think this, somehow, is called "crazy old gardener wisdom" 😅

For several grows now, I cut out a plastic disc out of 6 - 9 mil plastic sheets. Kinda like the earth boxes but no elastic, they just set inside. Easy to clean, reusable and very obtainable at home ive seen several benefits and zero drawbacks. Remove to water... Reusable mulch layer... Pest barrier. Hope this helps or inspires! Cheers 🔥💨🦨✌️👊

I actually just went through something similar with fungus gnats. I use Coast of Maine growers blend in 10 gal fabric pots with Blumats. I had 1 bag of soil that had gnats and I didn't act right away. Before you know it, the gnats were out of control. I tried yellow sticky traps, dusting diatomaceous earth, Dr Zymes etc. Nothing worked. Then I read somewhere about moquito bits to kill the larva. They are made by the same company as the dunks. After using the watering in mosquito bits once per week for about 2 months, they are finally under control. In conjuction, I used the Seabright Laboratories yellow sticky traps to catch the adults.. These things work way better than any other sticky trap that I have found. It has globs of glue to catch the little buggers. I plan to use this method continuously as part of my ipm. I hope this helps others out there. Fungus gnats suck.

Mosquito bits kill fungus gnat larvae. You gotta use them right. Can't just sprinkle them on your soil. Get your water, heat it to almost boiling. Then pour a cup of mosquito bits into the hot water. Let it sit for like 20 minutes. Then drain the mosquito bits, and let your water cool down, or mix it with cooler water, then water your plants with it.

I have found that 4 heaping tablespoons of quality neem cake per gallon aerated for 24 hrs and watered in with a pump sprayer for full coverage, paying particular attention to the edges of the pots where they can crawl down the sides will eradicate them in 2 treatments usually. 72 hrs apart on the treatments. Best part is the plants love it. I have seen NO negative effects from this process. On 15 gal pots I use about 1/2 gal per pot per treatment.

2nd vote on the Mosquito dunks. they breed a bacteria in the water that when the fungus gnat larvae eat, it causes them to die. apparently it kills thrip larvae in the soil as well.

Beneficial nematodes and BTI (mosquito bits are my preference) work great for fungus gnats. BN gets applied once or twice. BTI can be applied a few times until the gnats are under control. Plus, the material that carries the BN and BTI is usually corn cobs, so it will benefit the microbes, worms, and insects as it breaks down. Barriers work (sand or perlite) but they're a pain in the ass to remove after the fact. Plus, fungus gnats aren't a huge problem. Organic growing (obviously) has a lot of organic matter in the soil. As long a the gnats have organic material to eat other than your plants roots, then they shouldn't really hurt the plants while you're working to resolve the issue. I panicked a few times in the past, but the gnats are very manageable and have never caused me any real problems other than being a nuisance. BN and BTI are what I swear by to fix a gnat infestation. Cheers on the great info again, Jeremy.

Prevention method 1: Bake your soil before use and store away from problem areas. Prevention method 2: Boil your soil in enough water to cover it deep in the pot and save your drainage to rewater your soil later. The drainage you've collected is rich in nutes. Store it in milk jugs for up to 3 weeks! I've bought soil from h$me dep$t and had a boom of multiple pests. Fortunately my pests cycled out with my boil method and it saved me $ on nutes!

This morning my grow tent shot up to 87.4% RH when my AC Infinity automation setup failed. (my fault) Had dew all over my plants. Had to use a bunch of fans and a hair dryer on cool to get rid of the moisture. Growing can be stressful and a lot of growers don't admit that problems happen. It can make ya feel intimidated when you think you aren't the only one, but it's the norm. Even someone growing for decades is gonna encounter hurdles. Just stay the course and keep growing! Wish y'all some good harvests this season!

I think what worked for me was just putting the soil in air-tight bins. Had to move. Sat for at least 3-4 months. No gnats or larvae visible. . When I finally got everything back up and running running, I used everything I tried before, except all together - neem oil, for foliar and soil drench, neem meal, companion crop/mulch layer, and ipm from cowoco, even Q (small reg doses, not the huge doses recommended at one point) . Then, as I became more relaxed, I took things out until I just use them once in a while and I cycle through. . Haven’t had any problems since; been almost two years now. I was really worried about them but it turned out that the last option to get rid of gnats was not too bad and it gave me some experience of what to look and how to act more quickly for next time.

Fungus gnats - had this problem for a year+ and completely understand the absolute frustration with nothing working. Tried it all from a 1 inch layer of diatomaceous earth to a drying out my soil to biologicals. Best thing I found was what has already been mentioned - BTi aka Mosquito Dunks/Bits (commercial names). But it took a bit of time to completely subside. One thing to remember is that the biologicals in the mosquito bits need moisture/water to thrive and eat the fungus gnats larvae. They’re actually made to work in ponds or large areas of sitting water to literally kill mosquito larvae before they hatch in the water. So you can’t also dry your soil out and try to use the mosquito bits. You need to keep it just as moist as a living soil should be - which is counterintuitive when you’re trying to do all you can do to eliminate fungus gnats. That’s probably the main reason people say they try it and it doesn’t work. I sprinkled the mosquito bits on my soil every couple weeks for about a year and my pots now are completely gnat free. Even when I add in a new layer of compost or castings that may have gnats, one or two may show up and then they’re gone. Because I have a constant ecosystem of the BTi microbes living in conjunction with all my other microbes. At least that’s how I understand it. Hope that helps. 7:59

They will away. You could also buy a cheap watering pump with the spil spikes and drip water your plants if you really Can't fix the problem. I've also used neem seed meal. Put a nice layer on top of your soil and water it in. It will create that crust and usually kills off my knats

I rarely get pest issues but my basic ipm for gnats is I have a heavy load of neem seed meal in the soil and top dress and I use bti but I prefer the liquid from microbe lift bmc. I don't like the idea of not knowing exactly what's in the dunks and with the liquid it's literally a couple drops per gallon of water. I also have sticky traps around the garden for passive ipm.

I swear by Microbelift BMC @ 2 drops per gallon, every watering/feeding! No effect on pH either! Love it!

The bits were a pain in the butt to use every watering , BMC smells like curry 😂 but keeps the gnats away killing all larvae! I could see the dead larvae come out in my runoff 🎉🎉

I found if you put a cover over it, it helps. I use N Earthbox so if you don’t have one maybe make your own cover. Then yellow sticky traps outside right next to get any that escape. Worked for me from tons to 1-2. Of course this really is just a barrier like he was taking about

I use BTi. Works for me. I had a fairly bad issue when I used it. It’s been suggested to just use it in the IPM rotation as a preventative but I don’t like doing that as that can also contribute to resistance

I am a living soil no till grower and two flips ago. I had fungus gnats and I used the mosquito dunk bag it comes in a granulated kibble put the kibble in a paint strainer bag and soaked it in my 5 gallon bucket, used that water to water in every time. Keep topping off the five gallon bucket. and within 3 to 4 weeks. I had no more fungus gnats and I still have no more fungus gnats and you can pick it up at Home Depot.

Dude you need to give vaporizers another chance the tech has come a very long way, check out the cannabis hardware b-zero. These types of vapes using an enail coil as a heat source and ruby balls as thermal mass, man they are a whole different experience.

I’ll second the Cannabis Hardware Flowerpot. I just got my B0 yesterday and it’s fucking amazing! Already ordered the B2. Also, if you have some Milwaukee tool batteries and the Milwaukee Top Off, you can run the PID off of it. With an 8.0 battery I’m at 30 min so far and still 3 power bars left. Definitely taking this camping.

Predator mites, Karanja/neem blend will help a lot. I use a very specific blend of plant enzymes that I spray out of a bottle that seems to destroy any larva on top and has not affected my plants. I have had no gnats for a long time now. The first time I used it I had a lot of new soil and I just fogged everything in the tent including the plants and within 20 minutes they were praying back to the lights and no discoloration appeared on the leaves and it also destroys mold spores. I probably wouldn’t use it if seedlings or flowering plants were in there though.

I use airpots "the ones with the holes all over it" 10 gallon, and a blower fan set on low firing down the center of the tent at ground level in a 8'x4' . Between the fan drying the exterior of the soil quicker , and the wind blowing the gnats out of the air , I've not had a Gnat problem and thats with my doors open when the lights are on .

Rubbing alcohol at 70 percent strength in a spray bottle mixed with quinoa and water so it makes a permeable barrier on the top of the soil that u can scrape off or hydrogen peroxide at 2-3 percent mixed with water sprayed on top of the soil for the deep gnats

i use straw mulch and cover crop, watering every 2-3 days in 15 gals and never see a problem with nats. i keep sticky traps up to see if they are around but i do really think overwatering is a big contributor and poor air movement. i spray BAS oil blend, tweetmint,em5,canna control, and neem for IPM mainly in veg, and into the first 2 weeks ish of flower. rotating the sprays each week or each application and it really seems to help keep any bugs at bay. As the will find their way in; all that good cowoco and BAF is good stuff. love these ! this channel has been what has given me the confidence and experience to grow successful harvest every couple months perpetually. earth box is the biggest game changer at the beginning i thought. easy button

i do use a chapin and love it. its the red one. quite nice. plasti dipped the bottom to help it from being so loud on my tile. i also use air stones in my water for a day or two before watering. i find it helps bring oxygenated water to the plants. great with some q and ferments in there and rootwise. plants love it.

I have had great success using neem cake and they are pretty much gone in a couple days. Another application in a week is usually necessary to get the eggs that hatch. I will add about 1 tablespoon per gallon of water and let it dissolve in the water for a couple hours before watering. A bubbler keeps the water good for a couple days but throw it out as soon as it smells funky.

I put up a bug zapper up that draws in all the fungus gnats. I also use yellow sticky traps regularly as a preventative and have used mosquito dunks with great success. But this bug zapper might be my favorite preventative now, I don't know why I never thought of it before.

Fungus gnats aren’t always fungus gnats, sometimes they are shore flies. Shore flies will go away by keeping the soil dry most of the time. For actual fungus gnats, use fresh Sf nematodes and 24 hour neem cake tea. I’ve knocked back brutal infections that way.

Rolly polls, thought they were great helping decompose my organic material in my 4x8 beds. Even thought they were doing a great job congregating on the outside of my fabric beds chomping all of the built up mineral deposits (I think that's what the build-up is). They have now total devoured all of my mulch layer and are loaded in every square inch of my top layer of soil. I believe they will soon start to ruin my grow.... best advice?

I'm not at a living soil point yet so i still buy my soil local. This soil is mostly infested with fungus gnats. I need to start bottom-watering asap and put yellow cards and use the vacuum cleaner to keep it under control. I have plastic pots and i also drilled holes in the side for aeration and airpruning. I just cut the leg of a nylon stocking from my wife and pull it over the pot. This is a great way to stop the gnats from entering again thrue the holes. Also a tip i found was to make cinnamonwater and feed this to the soil but this is not a great way imo. Yes, the cinnamon helps to repel the gnats but the hydrophobic nature of the cinnamon makes it harder for the plant to take up water i found out. What do you think? Maybe you could mention this so people don't use this method. I still use cinnamon-water but only to put it on wounds of the plant after cutting and trimming. I would never use it again in my soil.
