I LOVE this experiment! I'm a bonsai enthusiast and have about 30(ish) trees in various stages of development. In bonsai we use 100% of akadama (which is a reddish brown clay particle that literally translates to "red ball" and is harvested around Mt. Fuji), hyuga pumice (or any pumice you can get your hands on in the 2-6mm particle size range; hyuga is also harvested from Mt. Fuji), and either black fuji lava rock (also harvested from Mt. Fuji) or kiryu (which is a lava sand also harvested from Mt. Fuji), and occasionally some zeolite. Your mix of basalt sand, pumice, lava rock and worm castings is a GREAT happy medium. You did your research and I commend you for that. In that soil mix, you will have to feed the plants. As the worm castings lose their potency, you'll want to feed them with some well balanced Organics Alive fertilizer once or twice a month depending on how they respond to being fed. I'm curious to see how your plants respond to the different soil mixes. Bonsai soil allows complete aeration down in the root zone which spurns fine feeder root growth, while also not smothering your roots with peat moss which doesn't allow much air into the root zone leading to root rot. Aerated soil in bonsai is KING. You get very rapid tree development and it can be shocking to see how much your tree can grow in bonsai soil, as long as you feed it well during the growing season. I also use Rootwise Mycrobe Complete to inoculate the soil of my bonsai trees as you have also done. Good luck! I can't wait to see how these do over time. Keep us posted.

Where do you get your bonsai seeds from? Or do you purchase starter plants?
@cactsai10 ай бұрын
@@YoungJrkks both! Starter plants (pre-bonsai) for most varieties is the way to go. Otherwise getting seeds from any source would be fine, but most of my trees I bought as pre-bonsai or lightly styled bonsai. Growing a tree from seed is a difficult way to go. Germination rates for trees can be quite low depending on the species.

Dude I'd be hyped if you dropped that perennial mix, I'd use that for all my trichocereus cacti. Id tell all the San Pedro homies about that one!! Also hyped on all these self watering systems as well!! I've been getting into building a few different types of these systems. The float valve systems are sick, I've also been working on a new flood and drain table using a bell siphon to allow the sump to continuously pump, but still being able to keep whatever time interval I want on allowing them to soak. Love the "semi hydro" space utilizing hydro techniques with soil is such a sick concept, and can have tons of upsides. overall just hyped on this video, and these new areas you're delving into recently!! Remember to grow along with your plants!!

Love those AC infinity seed starting bags. It’s what I prefer to start beans in now and use the half gallons for clones. But I promise you that they absolutely do not decompose., I pulled up a plant outta the ground from 2 summers ago and the bags will still in perfect shape minus the roots penetration through the bags .

cherry seeds need to be cold stratified ... not sure if yours were or not? Better yet... It helps speed things along to try and get the seeds out of the husks. [soak in warm/hot water and carefully crack husk with a pair of pilers to reveal the seed inside] Best of luck Jeremy. I'm liking the Tray2Grow. Looking forward to your review.

I am excited to try out the T2G system. My last run, I tried a similar experiment with some Mephisto freebies. I used 34 oz plastic mixed nut containers with holes drilled in each corner. I looped a nylon rope across each one dangling down to use as my wick. I filled them with a lightly amended Coco mix with a Tbs of "Grow Dots" mixed into each one. I placed my 6 nut containers into a 27 gallon tote and added an inch of water. The system worked, but it was far from the easy mode automated I wanted. I learned a LOT about tiny container growing and although I got a harvest out of all 6 of the plants, I am not proud of it at all compared to my normal Earth Box living soil grows. Fun experiment out of stuff I had laying around, but I will likely use that space for a tray to grow and living soil bed next spring.

How long does it take for the AC Infinity seedling pots to breakdown . Also will a cannabis plants roots be able to grow through the bag ?
@Myowndoing10 ай бұрын
Hey man, you need a control in that experiment. Maybe one pot of each soil with something your familiar with. Citrus seeds cannot dry out, from the time it comes out the orange till it's a seedling. The cherry probably needs cold stratification in the fridge crisper drawer, just moisten a paper towel with seeds and put it in a zip lock. Any stone fruit has to have its stone removed before cold stratification, not sure what kind of cherry you got some aren't stone fruits.

I will have to buy some flexi tanks because these 'ol buckets are not ideal for the Blumats always needing a box big enough for the ones exposed to light. Q and A for Jeremy or anyone that can help. I am starting 2 earthboxs with BAS light soil. Should I add craft blend and BAF before I start planting into it or should I just start using the feed schedule? Also if I use the feeding schedule for a full season what exactly should I do for a reamend? I am confused if the top line of the schedule is just for water only or if that is how to start. Thanks for all help.
@fuzzybunny440710 ай бұрын
You should be fine for veg with light mix. A week before flip I do 1 cup craft blend sprinkled on the soil and cover with compost or castings, about an inch. That should get you through flower. If it's a monster plant you can mound the compost/castings. Reamend same recipe as above. Good luck!
