I really enjoy this detailed overview type of video. I don’t mind the far-view sped up videos, but find an occasional one like this way more informative and helpful to prospective builders.

Would be nice if the break fluid reservoir was translucent so you could see how much fluid is in the can. Great when purging the breaks and checking levels. The TAF Sling TSi does use the translucent reservoir. Great Videos and great craftsmanship!! :)
@BuildFlyGo3 жыл бұрын
It would be nice but considering I only check it 2x annually it doesn’t feel like a big burden. To make it translucent it would have to move inside the cabin and likely be hard to get to. Feels like a reasonable compromise.
@escalantea13 жыл бұрын
@@BuildFlyGo Your lucky, 2x per year! I had some issue and had to purge the breaks multiple times, fluid spilling all over the reservoir most of the times while doing this. I don't think you would need to relocate from the current position. It is a very low cost "change" or upgrade that brings, at least to me, a lot of benefits.
@BuildFlyGo3 жыл бұрын
Oh, I only had to purge once when installing on the -9. I check the levels at winter service and at annual. It’s never needed a top-off.

As usual…fantastic info..thank you! I’m not at the brakes pedals yet, but would nylon washers mitigate the friction issue when using two bolts instead of the really long one? Just a question/thought.
@BuildFlyGo11 ай бұрын
Worth a try. The friction issue I've noticed is with the individual bolt not staying straight and "torquing" back when you put pressure on the pedals. The single bolt is an easy, reasonably inexpensive fix to this. That being said, I don't notice the issue on the -9, but already had the bolts so figured "why not".

What, if any, are the differences/advantages of using the Airflow Performance aux pump vs the stock from Van's?
@BuildFlyGo3 жыл бұрын
The stock FI pump from vans is the same as the AFP pump.

Could you fit the park brake banjo the other way to get the bend to go up? Just a thought. Enjoy seeing your progress on this build and your flight videos too. All the best. G
@BuildFlyGo3 жыл бұрын
Possibly. The other end has a very specific bend and clicking on it so I might need a new hose if I do that. It’s no big deal though, aircraftspecialty is great to work with and will make the change if I end up needing it.

Did you use the stock Aircraft Specialties provided aluminum T from the copilot pedals to the brake reservoir or did you use an aftermarket steel T? With the stock T being an aluminum NPT fitting how also did you seal the gap it leaves around the firewall?
@BuildFlyGo2 жыл бұрын
Yes, used the stock T. Will seal with 3m fire barrier when we do the rest of the fw penetrations.
@auburnaviator61672 жыл бұрын
@@BuildFlyGo thanks. Are you doing any heat shielding on the firewall itself?
@BuildFlyGo2 жыл бұрын
@@auburnaviator6167 Undecided still. We didn't on the -9A and had no issues but understand tunnel heat may be more of a thing with the -10 so giving it some thought. If we do it will be engine-side only.

As you mentioned you are using the seats from the RV9 in the new 10 build. It got me wondering, how much of the 9 and 10 have part commonality?
@BuildFlyGo3 жыл бұрын
Not a ton. Here and there you see some crossover. A few empennage ribs if I remember right. The seats were pure luck :)
@auburnaviator61673 жыл бұрын
What was your decision process for choosing the wing root fuel filters vs the under seat filters vs the tunnel? I was thinking it has to do with accessibility and ease of access for changing filters but with the tunnel access panels that might not be a problem. But tunnel heat and congestion with everything else that goes in the tunnel probably also plays a factor. 🤷🏼♂️ Also since you’re running the AFP pump and I didn’t see you mention it in your video I’m assuming you’re not running a return line to the tank? Last question (for now anyway) what ignition system are you planning on using? I’m in for any group buys also.
@BuildFlyGo3 жыл бұрын
I have the cabin filter in the -9a and it makes a mess and is unpleasant to pull out and clean at annual. I figure the wing-root option would keep the mess outside the airplane, plus add "filter redundancy." I have no idea if filter clogging issues happen but this would avoid that. Like the -9A, we plumbed the tank for a return line into the 3rd bay, but we are not going to use a return fuel system. We've decided on the tried&true AFP FI and dual p-mags that all work so well on our -9A.

What size rubber grommets did you use there for the different hoses?

Did you buy the airflow fuel pump from Vans as a standalone or did you buy an installation kit too? If you just bought the pump what is missing to do the install? I'm doing exactly what you. I have the wing root filters on order. I'm trying to figure out what else I need to install the fuelpump.

You seem to replace several "van's parts" with items from other companies. Do you not trust the Van's parts? Are the Van's parts somehow inferior? Why else would you have the Van's parts in hand, then buy other (better?) parts to replace them? I was under the impression that Van's tests and provides parts that are 100% reliable. Is that not the case?
@BuildFlyGo3 жыл бұрын
The vans stuff is awesome, but like any tinkerer there's always a "different" way to do something. In this case, the AircraftSpecialty hoses save a -lot- of build time for a process that I'm not terribly fond of. The cost in not crazy for the amount of time saved, so I find it to be a good deal. There are many vendors out there that offer products that are improvements or time savings, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to the stock parts.
