Building A 1300sq Inch Custom Hamster Cage | The Beaker [2/3]

Hey guys! Some people were asking about the materials used so I'll just copy-paste the info from the description box of part one to save some time :) Wood - Solid pine is the most common material used for making wooden hamster cages and toys, it's cheap, easy to find and easy to work with. Unlike pine shavings (which pose a serious health risk to small animals) solid pine comes with no such risks and will not cause harm to your pet. Varnish (I've been told it's called gloss in some countries, so I'm sorry if there is any confusion there!) PLEASE NOTE: While the following varnishes will not cause harm to your pet if they accidentally ingest small amounts, I advise against using varnish for any animals that are known to be destructive or excessive chewers. There are three types of varnish you can use in animal enclosures, the first is pet safe varnish but this can be hard to find. The second is child-safe varnish, this is easier to find and comes in many colour varieties. Finally food-grade varnish which can be purchased in most big hardware stores but is more commonly colourless or white. You can also use pet-friendly paints if you just want colour, soy paint and vegetable dye are safe options and some people also recommend water-soluble children's paint though I have never personally tried this. I used a child-friendly varnish from Pellatico but as far as I am aware this brand is exclusive to Cyprus. A popular global brand recommended by small pet communities is Plastikote, which is also available as a spray paint! :)

Hi Erin, LOVE your channel! Did you say PVA glue? Are you not using hot glue anymore? Is the PVA glue strong enough to hold the wood, what kind are you using :) thanks! I am still using hot glue because my hammie is not a chewer like that so I feel it's safe, but if PVA which is safer can hold wooden pieces (craft store wood and lollis) then I'd definitely go for that! how about PVA wood glue?

ErinsAnimals my hamster just won't be tamed she will take the treats from my hand and when I put treats on a dish and hold it she will climb right up and eat even when I lift the dish up, but if I try putting treats on my hand she will come up and bite me even when I wash my hands what should I do?! - confused hamster owner. P.S the hamster is over 18 months old and still isn't take no matter how hard I try.
