I thought you were good but when I saw watch I said this guy is a professional. Pal I need to give you the recognition you deserve this is an outstanding tutorial people don’t understand the pizass it takes to do this. Additionally The camera angles, the editing, the method, distance from action, all perfect. I’m going to make 6 just like this for my kitchen. Really I’m impressed and excited to pass These off to guest as my own doing. You may not have gone viral yet but keep it up and you will.

If you made the pivot points up side down you could just drop the assembly in to the pivots, no caps re quoted. Put 4 pivot mounts around the worktable anf just lift and place the seat were desired. Good build do like the concept!👍

As to the first part of your comment- that was originally the plan, but I flipped it because I didn't have enough space under the benchtop. I like that second idea though!

Instead of tapping a screw in your piece, two pieces of blue tape (one on your piece, covered in CA glue and one that has the shank attached, blue tape covered in activator) makes a great workhold for a makeshift lathe without having to screw into your part. The CA combo adheres the dry side of the blue tape, and blue tape is somehow strong enough to hold on until you're ready to peel them off.

Really cool build, might try making a swing arm for my roller seat. Wont look as nice but then I'll have adjustable height.

That was a really cool build. I'm glad it popped up in my feed. I haven't seen your channel before. I guess you were suggested because I watched James Wright restore an antique seat like this yesterday. You just got a new subscriber. I'm anxious to watch some of your other videos.

Assembly @3:41 is upside down compared to final @6:02, also, are those self-tappers going into the wooden seat? I think some 3/4" ID thrust bearings would reduce wear on pivot points. I like your idea, good video.

Love the idea but not being a woodworker I think I'd just buy the seat. Good job! Might try it with my cheap Harbor Freight work bench but I'd definitely have to reinforce the leg and bolt the bench to the wall.

Also, being 230, I'd bolt it to the leg as opposed to screws and move it to the inside of the leg. Very little room around my bench.

@@anarcholeptic cool! I look forward to seeing your new IG. For the various hardware and fittings, did you buy it at a local big box store or online? I just checked my Home Depot and all the various pipes and fittings will bring me close to $100 =( SoCal is expensive

Thanks! It’s pretty great, one thing I did to it later was add some loctite to the threads because the seat had a tendency to tilt left or right if I leaned too far in either direction. Since doing that though, it’s been all good!

I was rushing. I should’ve given it more time than I did and the last straw was the way I stressed it with the clamp. I don’t think it’ll happen again, but I can replace it if it does.

Have you weight tested this to know how much it will hold?
@anarcholeptic
@anarcholeptic 3 жыл бұрын
Not exactly- I think the only failure point would be pulling the screws straight out of the leg of the bench, which isn't gonna happen. I found that I can actually lever the workbench off the ground a little by putting the stool in the right position and leaning out as far as I possibly can. It wouldn't happen by accident, it takes some effort. One problem I did have was that the seat started to be able to tilt left/right if I leaned that direction. Not a structural problem, but annoying enough that I took apart the elbow joints and put on lots of thread locker, which has done the trick so far. If that fails, I might try to put a couple little tack welds at the meeting of those joints just to lock them up for good. Thanks for commenting!
