I remember some years ago, there was a guy with a 4 door Volvo similar age, that swapped in a 5.0L from a 90s Mustang. It even had that trademark 5.0L V8 sound from the exhaust. I’d hear it pulling around the parking lot and kept looking for a Mustang, but would see this Volvo.

That's the thing with (V8) sleepers - if you want to make a really good one, you have to start with a car that already came with that engine type, like a crappy, 120 - 150 hp one, but a V8 nonetheless. That rumble is a dead giveaway for a car that only came with a 4-banger...

Just have a local shop put a plain old 350 into a cheap Volvo wagon. It'll smoke tires all day long. Get a Volvo that doesn't run for a few hundred bucks, and a junkyard 350 for a few hundred bucks and pay a little bit to get it put together. Don't let your lack of knowledge prevent you from having the car you want, for cheap. You could probably end up with a running sleeper for a few thousand bucks, if research a bit and plan it out.

(my favs btw, 'cause i´m an 80's guy) But it´s always fun to see an old Amazon with +1000hp and still looking original like it came out from a factory yesterday. Though I think the problem with an LS swap is the idle sound. In a real sleeper the idle sound should also be silent as possible. That´s my opinion, don´t get mad. Great swap anyway! Love the rusted tailgate.
