This channel is definitely not very great at you learning the farm stuff but it's definitely most entertaining and most watchable of them all. It's like PRO production, PRO edits and PRO scripted. Watching this channel feels like watching some real high quality production TV series. So addictive and entertaining!

Im also excited to see the evaporater do its job. As someone who grew up doing syrup w my grandpa we spent alot of time standing around that fire watching the boiling. But we collected acres and acres of sap. At Christmas everyone got a pint of maple syrup. Gramps still does it but not to the same extent, all us grandkids are grown and only a couple of us still go out to help. So he majorly cut production lol. Of course hes in his late 80s now too. So only those of us that help still get syrup every year. But if u want to cheat show up on Sunday morning and cook them breakfast, you'll get the syrup ❤

Yay, we got to hear My Buddy Alfred. That's really a nice catchy tune. I love the background music. Towards the end of the video it had a smooth feel similar to something you'd hear off the Allman Brothers Eat A Peach album. The perfect accompaniment to the tree tapping segment. What a great thing they are doing for the kids. That's right, after reading some of the other videos I had to edit my video to say happy birthday!

One suggestion for halter training Randy: don’t let the extra length in the lead drag on the ground. It’s under his feet and confusing him. Just coil it a little and hold it with your other hand. I used to show a Hereford heifer at the parish fair (parish is the equivalent of county).

I am sooooo glad to hear that you are FINALLY being a little forceful and direct with your cattle. As someone who has been around cattle off and on most of her life, I've found that they really want someone that acts like a leader in their understanding, not ours, and that involves not acting like their friend, but acting like you own the place. Only when they understand what the hierarchy is will they understand and accept that you are sharing it with them and that you all can be friends. (Yes, you frustrated me to no end over that one little point lol). I think you will find it makes a huge difference, and that doesn't mean you're being mean, but a little "bossy". (Yes, there's a pun in there). I'm glad you got sound advice and you're moving forward with it, and I look forward to continuing to enjoy learning about your journey.

I hope you harvest and mill your own lumber off the farm, even if you hire a mobile mill to cut it. Then host shelter institute to rehab the big barn and add on. That third floor rehabbed would be a great space. Dry it in the hay mow and then build in 2 years with 2" thick boards.

Happy birthday, When you are leading a big animal, keep them at your side and use your elbow to keep them from crowding you. Just relax like you would with Abby or Toby. Your erect posture will travel speak to Randy that YOU are in charge. ALL this travels down the lead line to whatever animal you are working. Most important, RELAX.

Here at N42W77.5 sap has been tuning since the 1st of mar And it is still running good It has been in the 30's to 40's day highs and down into 20's at night. Looks like it will keep going for at least another 2 weeks here. Being a good season.

So, what you said about types of trees being one of the factors that can affect syrup production is absolutely true. Different species of maple trees have different levels of sugars in their sap. While I don't remember exact values, the order from best to worst where I live (which is in Ontario, so probably has a fairly similar maple species distribution to northern Vermont) is: Sugar Maple Black Maple Red Maple Freeman's Maple Silver Maple Although since you don't have very many mature maples, I don't know if identifying which species you have will be very helpful to you at all.
