@@redbeardlutherie1173 I had Canarios in mind when I saw the thumbnail of part one… You did not disappoint! It was very satisfying when you selected that Gaspar Sanz piece to showcase the instrument. I am in the process of building one myself. Currently working on the rose. These are beautiful instruments indeed

I saw you put double strings on the highest course and my heart skipped a bit, then you took it off and I was "uffff back to normal", great playing btw, sounded really nice, I would've liked a more snappy fast end as that's the usual for a fast piece, but you really made it shine and it sounds amazing
@redbeardlutherie1173 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the nice comment! The double strings on the first course sounds great if all you’re doing in accompanying with chords, but the single course definitely sounds way better when playing pieces like this
@The_IRL_Bard Жыл бұрын
@@redbeardlutherie1173 I believe the chitarra battente(if it's spelled like that) had a double chanterelle, which is the name given to the first course meaning the string that sings, it's a more accompaniment focused instrument with all metal strings similar to a baroque guitar.

what is this open tuned to? Is it the same as a modern guitar? It sounds as magical as a ukulele, but with the character of a guitar... without being a lame old guitar :) i love it!
@redbeardlutherie1173 Жыл бұрын
It is tuned the same as the first 5 strings of a regular guitar, with the bottom two strings tuned in octaves. Thanks for commenting!

@@redbeardlutherie1173 thanks for the reply! I went into the rabbit hole for this kind of guitar and found so many answers :) it's astounding that I had been a guitar player for 20 years and never come across this instrument... I might have stuck with guitar as my main if I knew about it haha I was too focused on playing metal and working I guess. I might consider building one of these as a nearby project, it would be super cool to have one to mess around with and bring back some love for guitar :)

very beautiful. i always wonder, what would you think about using that extra peg for a lower bass string? the string spacing seems to be very forgiving for this use
@redbeardlutherie1173 Жыл бұрын
There is a similar instrument called a vihuela that has an extra bass string. I may just have to make one of those!
@jstandsforlove Жыл бұрын
awesome! wish i had this talent but im working on it ^^ by the way, thanks for making me do research the one by stradivarius. the way he used wooden frets will be very practical on a fingerboard i want to extend @@redbeardlutherie1173

I love how 'historical' it sounds. Is it due to the wood used, shape or strings? Also can you direct me towards those modern strings that are made to resemble gut? I'm planning to build a harp and might consider something different than nylon monofilament.
@redbeardlutherie1173 Жыл бұрын
I think the biggest contributors to this kind of sound are the strings, and body shape. I used strings by Aquila. I really like them! Much cheaper than gut and they sound great. Thanks for commenting and good-luck with your harp!
@basil_jackson Жыл бұрын
@@redbeardlutherie1173 I looked up Aquila and indeed the strings seem to be fairly reasonably priced. And the fact that they are within Europe plays to my advantage (also their Nylgut for harp are coloured in black instead of blue, which I suppose is better for historical aesthetic). Just to make sure - you used the Nylgut here?
@redbeardlutherie1173 Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, your comment slipped my notifications! Yes I used Nyglut @@basil_jackson

@@redbeardlutherie1173 Hey there! With many holdbacks on the way it took me way more than it should have, but I have made my harp and used Aquila strings and it sounds amazing, so thank you a lot for your tips!
