Part 2 in a series of building a Meyers Manx style beach buggy on a shortened 1968 VW Beetle chassis in my home garage.
This episode focuses on rust removal/repair and the shortening of the VW chassis.

Neil "not sketchy at all" Steel! That has to be the cleanest chassis cut down in history.

Incredible metal work.. If I were a rich man, you’d be first on my list to be asked to build me a Dune buggy.. I seriously am enjoying this series.

I restored a Winnie certified '67 Manx that came to me in pieces. The ethos back in the 1960s was build them up as quick & cheap as you can, salvage as much as you can from the donor & go have fun (I think some of the Meyer's ads claimed it could be done in a weekend). Which meant I found myself dealing with 50 year old bodges! Your work is so exemplary it's just a whole other level. Can't wait to see the rest of the build.

When I shortened mine I cut the rotten frame head off and welded the new one on 14” back, then moved the gear stick and handbrake to match,

Hi Neil. I found your channel by way of FB on the vw buggy page and I just wanted to say please don’t alter the way you film and edit you videos as I’m blown away by your naturalness to the camera and, way you deliver information to us etc and The pace of your vids is spot on and a real joy to watch (and the lighting levels in your garage are perfect- neither too dark nor too bright, just right). This summer I’m wanting to start a buggy project with my two boys (7&5 years old) which will be a LWB buggy to get us all in and your journey sets out what I could face when do get started. I’m interested to see your work on a decent roll cage and how it can be tied into the floor pan correctly. Have you considered possibly making a video on your welding techniques as your welds look sweet and the mig sounds like it’s frying bacon nicely? Keep it up as I now find myself looking for your next instalment almost daily. 👍

Thank you! I'm far from a professional though. I'm a signwriter by trade and only do this stuff as a hobby and am self taught at all of it.
