An additional consideration for those of us in snowy climates. Where will you push the snow when plowing? With a long driveway, you can’t just angle your plow and expect it to disappear off to the side. Your driveway will be too narrow by mid-January. Curves work great, and even better it you add a spur, or turnaround at each one. That gives you a spot to pile the snow. And if the land drops off at the end of the spur, so much the better. And remember if you’ve got hills, you’ll want to be pushing the snow downhill, so plan the spur so it’s convenient in that direction.

I've got an old skidder trail on a piece of property that was selectively logged which leads to small clearing in the woods. It's got some soft spots and holes in it but would make a decent driveway with a bunch of rock and gravel hauled in.

So glad to see you're back! This is your first recent video that's come to my attention. Your driveway, by the way, looks wonderful. As always, thanks for the great content.

Perhaps a forest mulcher could be used on all those small trees. Just leave the stumps to pull up or push out. That would greatly minimize the mess.

What about burying the brush in the soft areas of the road. A foot thick of 4 inch stuff creates stable soil.

But then as it decomposes it causes pot holes.

Imagine the cognitive dissonance of pretending you live in a free country, yet every step you take "requires" permission. You cowards of the boomer generation left us this, while you busy purchasing property.

The further you get from society the less restrictions you find. People are the problem, not a particular generation. If you want freedom you'll have to pull up them bootstraps just like the old timers had to do. I doubt you've got what it takes.

There are good reasons for these rules regarding roads if that’s what you are whining like a millennial about. There are very few rules with unrestricted, raw land. Sounds like that’s what you are looking for. But creating a road into it, might require a permit, sorry. Or, you can be a true rebel and just do it, pay for forgiveness later. Blaming an entire generation might come back to bite you one day. You just need a wider perspective.

Ever hear of a "Crown Title"? Didn't think so. If you had heard of it, your "comment" would have been worded differently. You're Welcome. From a "Boomer"

Come to southwest Virginia! I just bought 100 acres here and when I went to the building inspector and the permit office they are so accommodating and welcoming to off grinders. I can build a building up to 256 square ft and when I inquired about a driveway, they literally called the other owners on the easement and got the ok for me , then said ‘go put in your driveway, build a cabin or shed or whatever. But if I decide to live on the property full time I need a septic or alternative. Im totally good with that. They also have a law that you can ‘camp’ for up to 6 months a year but if you leave the property and come back the 6 months starts over and they told me nobody checks. I work as a home health aide and im out of state on a job rn but can’t wait to get back and start building my life in southwest virginia!
