Here's the challenge: How much naturally aspirated power can you make for twenty grand? Mud Bogging is about as All-American as it gets when it comes to motorsports. We travelled to the shops of Motorsports Unlimited to meet up with owner Lance Stillwell as he builds a 582 cubic inch big block for a Mud Bog racer. Best of all, this engine makes well over 1,000 horsepower for less than twenty grand!

Those Moroso Billet oil pumps are a serious piece. They crank out a SHIT TON of oil... On a dyno, the Moroso pump will show that it takes 6-8 more horsepower to drive than a standard Melling High-Volume pump does, but it will have more P.S.I. through the entire sweep, and much more oil flow(g.p.h.). It's a stout piece of hardware.

So funny story, when I was younger I went to Bubba's Mud Ranch (owned by Bubba the Love Sponge) in Auburndale, FL and they had a side by side 1/4 mile drag strip made of mud that was roughly 3-4' deep. There were some KILLER trucks there that night. The dude that we came with had a OBS Ford on 44" TSL Thornbirds with a fully built 460 with a centrifugal supercharger and what kind of vehicle do you think won the whole night overall? A damn stock 4 cylinder manual Jeep Wrangler...what in the actual fu&%?

11:45 These all need to be honed to fit. They are small out of the box to compensate for differences in cranks from various manufacturers. By brother crammed one on right out of the box, and we had a HELL of a time getting it back off. A brake wheel cylinder hone will work to do it at home, but it's kind of a bitch because the stones like to get caught in the keyway slot. Take your time, and go easy with it.

Besides rotating assembly balancing, RPM capability is dictated more by the top end of an engine. Holding back on stroke doesn't mean much in and of itself.

Don't get me wrong I love a big hp number but is a big torque number a good thing
@TheHorsepowerMonster
@TheHorsepowerMonster 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you definitely want a ton of torque. But it isn't as critical as high rpm power. The thing about mud bogging is the engine will likely never see anything in the lower rpm range in the pit. The driver will mostly likely run the engine up to around 6000 rpm or so and drop the clutch. Then he'll make his run with the pedal mashed to the floor. Since there is no traction, the engine will still be in high rpm range when the truck gets stuck with the wheels still spinning. Thanks for watching.

I always wonder why they lube the bearing journals (not sure if it's the right terminology) on a cam BEFORE they insert when by the time it gets to the 5th bearing it's wiped clean. I personally re-lube before the cam is set in it's final spot to make sure enough lube for when I turn the assembly as needed during the build. Obviously once you prime it it wipes it all away, but at least enough for degree the cam and setting lash etc.

“Like the rest of us, doesn’t have a lot of money.” Also them: “Were going to make over 1,000 horsepower for around $20,000.” I was expecting $2,000. That’s my fucking budget 😂

YOU can do it for $10k, I just built a premium 385sbc with eagle forged crank and 900hp rods from jegs that will go over 1200hp , you can find deals on great pistons like wiseco on e bay for about $400, heads are tough deal I get them usually bare shop around and load them with manly valves,
