Great job! Couple questions for you: 1. Do you have to do a monthly clean out like you would with a non-bioactive enclosure or do you only have to spot clean urate/urine and poops? The rest stays clean due to the bugs? 2. Do you have a hot and cold side for him? I only saw one hut on one side. I have a 90 degree basking side and an 80 degree side as well for my girls. LOVE the idea of a self sustainable ecosystem though! (Obviously I would still have to feed the snakes. That part isn't self sustaining.)

If you need to scrub off stubborn buildups of organic material from the glass, extra fine steel wool is the best. It's what commercial cleaners use to get those bits of paint overspray off windows. I also use it on all sorts of different bits of glassware etc. and it works BEAUTIFULLY! 👌🏻

@TheMessyAquariustRising5 жыл бұрын
When you spray daily, the moss that is in those pockets will keep the humidity. Also, since the bugs are in there, they airate the dirt and tunnel, keep pockets in there which add to it. And since they clean your pets poop, you dont need to replace bedding so it stays moist and nutrient rich. You can mix moss in with the bedding and spray that to also keep humidity.
@lalylaly275 жыл бұрын
@@TheMessyAquariustRising a proper bio-active vivarium set up doesn't require daily misting. Misting causes spikes in humidity and dries quickly, not ideal for ball pythons.
@suda_lifts2 жыл бұрын
@@lalylaly27 I mean you only really need a high humidity when their in shed. As long as it’s not bone dry like the desert than a ball python should be good. But misting a little bit wouldn’t hurt

I believe everyone should make nice setups like this for their animals! Even though it can be unrealistic for some people. I think it's important to replicate the animals natural habitat as closely as possible. I did this for my snake a few years ago and she's still enjoying it fully! Although I have fake plants instead of real ones due to how many she killed. She's a big female bp 2060 grams. She's torn all her live plants to shreds :( but it's still nice
@TheKeyworkauditorium7 жыл бұрын
What a great video bud! I love your channel! But I just gotta ask you, I often hear people say you need a hide both on the warm side and the colder side, but I do notice you keep one hide for your snakes. Why so? :) Not hating on you, just genuinly curious. ( I do not have any reptiles, they will be legal in Norway 15th. August)
@GoHerping7 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) The goal is to supply your snake a temperature gradient to thermoregulate while feeling safe and covered at the same time. I always stick the hide on the warm side, especially since it helps contain heat, and he can move cooler side where there's extra plants, sticks and other cover he can hide under to feel secure. So multiple hides are a great addition but I don't think it's required. And congrats on the laws changing in our favor!

When making the background, I always make it on stiff foam insulation, then the spray foam, carve, and a much easier alternative to the loose cocofibre covering the back, is to silicone coco fiber sheet (often used in garden baskets) to cover the background. The you can add loose in different spots to add texture and have a more natural look. Also, why is there no false bottom? You need a drainage layer to allow excess water to fall to so it doesn't flood the bottom. It also helps the plants have extra space to root. I have never seen a vivarium/bio-active enclosure last very long without a false bottom. Not trying to be rude.

They'll make the foam carving process a lot faster and easier, but you'll need a shop vac to clean up all the debris afterwards. Still a lot easier though. :)
