Excellent presentation guys - I’m retired now and I’m 68yrs old - all self taught and self made - I’m focused on 3 sectors - Financials / Telecom / Hydro - I hold individual stocks and one ETF - that I recently took a chance with Hamiltons - HMAX for my RRIF - my holdings generate an income of $60,000 per year and I’m mortgage free.. - but I enjoy listening to your stuff - I also hold a cash account / but my current strategy is harvesting income from my RRIF and compounding my returns in my stocks - and so that I can utilize the Canadian dividend tax credit …. I’m not too adventurous, when it comes to investing and I mainly stick with high yield dividend income - Although I don’t own it - my favourite structured BMO ETF is ZLB - I like it because it avoids the volatile energy sector and their returns have been superior 😅

I have some hmax on drip, and im concerned it trends downward, I might have been better to buy zlb, or zlu, or both and with vfv, much lower dividends but much higher growth..

@@twfinc6855 - The economy as a whole is choppy - and unemployment levels have risen - the loans market has slowed due to higher interest rates - so all these factors have may have earnings at the banks / Banks always recover - so don’t expect a fast recovery - maybe - 6 months to a Yr or so / sit back and collect your dividends .. relax $$ 🤞👍😎

why not allocate more to covered call funds like USCC. QQCC. HDIV, HDIF etc for the retiree who needs income?

This video was crazy insightful. I ironically have a bank appointment at BMO tomorrow so I will actually be purchasing the portfolio you mentioned. (I know this video is not legal advice, I am making this decision as I’ve been following this channel for years and it’s helped me invest successfully)

this is off topic but I was looking back for a video with both of you in it; So, a milestone for me; first month ever with $500 in dividends in September! It's been rising slowly in no small part to what I have learnt, things I have bought, reinvesting ideas I have heard, on your channel. So, thanks! Just have to work that up to $3000 a month and I can retire! ;)

Marc why you chose ZQB and ZWU and ZQQ ? 1. ZQB, ZWU is on all time low ( 5 years ) are they have high potenntial going up anytime soon ? and 2. ZQQ is on its 5 year peak. As a beginner / long term investor I see a lot of risk in these 3 ETF's. The first 2 will look like tehey will go mor downs with ecoonomy slowing down in 1-2 yyears from now and 3 will also go down - in my opinion.

I think there is a cohort that did not invest or save for whatever reason and then as time is 'running out' thinks they have to take more risk to catch up to where they 'should be'...at least, I was like that in my 40s. hard to imagine I was the only one, though! Since we can retire at any age, if we have the means, then age doesn't really matter. Passive investing guy did that! sold house, expensive car and has a pretty sweet monthly income!

Thank you for sharing your ideas on how you would build your portfolio. However, i find the MER of 0.40 to be on the high side especially since it was a passive fund.

ZWU has a cagr of 3.56% with dividends reinvested and no income taken... thats horrible. I would rather own something with a CAGR of 11% and with a 1% yield and slowly sell shares as it grows to create the income..

There have obviously been sponsored by BMO, so are bound to use that. However, you can use their suggestions as sample data and look for similar funds under Vanguard or iShares or whatever it is that you prefer.

Even though sponsored, the Vanguard and Blackrock funds are nearly identical with what indexes they follow and MER. Easy enough to swap one for the other.

So, I'm following along checking out the funds on my broker site and the dividends are all, well...low! growth looks good enough, that's for sure, but the unrealised gains don't actually make me any money until I sell them. I think I like ZWU but I see it uses covered calls, until I look at the long term chart. I'm starting to think most covered call ETFs have a similar kind of chart; pointing toward the SE rather than the NE.

Even simpler: ZEQT or ZGRO. Worth talking about the full portfolio wrapper ETFs that are available.

Awesome. While BMO has great covered call ETF's, which I hold in my TFSA, I also enjoy writing my own covered calls in my taxable account on single holdings, mainly Canadian banks. Great source of income.

Disappointed you didn't have 5% allocation to gold in your mix . Dalio recommends exposure. Something like Sprott physical gold PHYS, or for a leveraged play XGD or individual names in royalty and streamers like FNV, WPM, Osisko, etc.

Sorry but Marc’s ETFs suck. Cad hedging is bad idea. Not only does it add to the MER but is prone to tracking inaccuracy and actually makes the fund more volatile because now you’re mixing in currency exchange rate. Covered call ETFs are also just terrible products. If you want to lose money buy covered call ETF. Brandon’s ETFs are solid but one could also just buy ZGRO and call it a day. Why buy multiple funds when one fund does the trick. But it also makes for a dull video I suppose.
