No, the dowel still needed to be sawed off. The folded paper was only a temporary shim, inserted between the uprights and drum/ratchet only until the glue dried on the uprights. the goal was to have a small gap between the uprights and drum/ratchet so that there would be no friction, thus allowing the throwing arm of the catapult to swing over faster. Oh I made one of these catapult things in middle school, still sitting in my garage. We made them from wooden planks, measured each piece, sanded them and game them a nice gloss finish. Then we made a basket hoop and a ball, attached it all and made a little toy. Mine is a bit off center though.. Nice video!

I find modern phenomenon like KZbin videos that gain widespread popularity for things normally seen as mundane for the most part disturbing. Having three sons and discovering someone who can make money simply by playing Minecraft, I ask myself "is entertainment something that no longer requires skill?" Having said that, I am a devout believer in ASMR, and your videos are very well done. I also realize you've done all this, as far as I know, free of charge, at least I'm not paying for it, so that aspect deserves respect. Thank you for making these.
